Chapter 2: The Cave Revisited
The cave, since abandoned, is visited by yet another group of 2 adventurers. This time the thrill seekers are a pair of militiamen, a nephilkin and a half-ohrk. The intrepid duo enter the cave and descend to the gate. It is melted off of its well hidden hinges and the space beyond is dark. The statue has been defaced and where the small door was before there is now a large tunnel, bored by hellfire. The tunnel is littered with the corpses of adventurers who came before, prime for looting. The half-ohrk takes advantage of the opportunity and lines his pockets. Or he would have if he had not been seized by a strangulation imp hiding in the wall. He did not die there though and ripped the slippery creature from the wall, slaying it.
After a short walk the duo walks into the old throne room. The throne still stands and a great hole gapes behind and beyond it. The adventurers inspect the throne and discover that they have been set upon by shadow daemons. The two flee the deadly fiends and plunge through the hole beyond.
The duo, after a great descent, finds themselves in the portal room. The shriveled corpse of the slain sheeptaur lays limp upon the central altar. A wind rushes up from the bright blue portal surrounding the slab. The foolhardy two leap into the portal with little hesitation.
They plummet through the sky. billowy clouds streak by. The portal was much higher up than they had accounted for.
The half-ohrk lands first. The lava-like crags cushioned his fall supernaturally well. He then loses his balance (for his legs were likely broken) and falls into a roiling pit of dark ichor. He is subsequently devoured by its ravenous denizens.
The nephilkin on the other hand used his angelic wings to slow his descent. He gracefully landed next to the pool. At the opposite end of the pool he espies a reclining figure.
