Asglen
Light of Esluxia
Beyond the bridge, buildings rise from the ground in a mess of colors and shapes, two or three storeys of height, sprawling over the hill. Over the roofs, ethereal stone statues peek over, reaching for the sky. Magic glimmers in the air as far as eye can see, filling the streets with vibrant colors.
At the end of the Lifexi Revolution, the the twin cities of Sera and Ichi were burned to the ground at the hands of the Imposter King in his attempt to stop the Phoenix King Yilvar. On the ashes of the two towns, not a day after the battle had ended, the Phoenix King signed the Esluxian Accord with the leaders of the other Esluxian Nations. As Sera had been the hometown of his parents, the one from which the entire revolution started, he negotiated with the new leader of Xore to acquire the lands that fell under Sera-Ichi and make them independent from all kingdoms.
From the day the first building was reconstructed – a now historical hall in which the Asglen Treaties were signed among the ruling nations of Navilee – the city was known as Asglen. For its independence from all the nations, it was then made capitol of the Esluxian Alliance, home of the Council of the Lights.
These days, Asglen is a lush city covering the entire original area of Sera and more, and the hill that Ichi originally stood on is now a place of piligrimage and hosts religious sites and encampments. Asglen is famous as a center of commerce, diplomacy, politics and studies; it holds the central quarters of most Esluxian guilds and boasts the top university in the humanitarian field for all of Navilee.
Geography
The independant province of Asglen occupies an area of 39,847 square kilometers, and was once in the north-easternmost part of Xore. It is crossed by the river Asiko, which is joined by its affluents just mount of the city. It borders with the Nations of Fyma, Trezi and Xore. It is a hilly area that begins to transition into mountains on the eastern border.
The city of Asglen is located in a bend of the Asiko, of which it uses a natural enlargment as a harbor. While the city proper is entirely on the hill, with the citadel at the highest point, its outskirts extend past the slopes of the hill and all the way across the river.
Climate
Asglen finds itself in a prosperous position: the mountains to the east shield it from the oceanic air currents, making floods and torrential rains rare. Due to the proximity to the Asiko though, the summers are humid. Temperatures vary a lot between summer and winter, and even within the same day the temperature tends to drop greatly at night, especially in the spring and fall when the winds blow from north-west.
Natural Resources
Sitting close to the river and right above an aquifer, Asglen is rich in clay, sand and clean water. Its soil is fertile from both the water and the ash still present from the war, which makes the harvesting of rice, oat, barley and wheat easy. There is also plenty of space for the raising of farm animals such as goats, pigs and muttons.
To the North of the city, there is ample access to woods, which are cared for by locals, with game consisting mostly of hare, deer, and birds. To the East instead, where the hills morph into mountains, there is more access to stone and a limited amount of coal.
Structure
Over the two centuries from its foundation, the city has expanded beyond it's original surface. The Harbor, once separate, is now a major part of the city. Today, there are six ways into the metropolitan area: the North Gate, the West Gate, the South Gate, the East Gate, the Harbor and the Northwest Ford. The original gates giving way into the city proper still exist, as does the boundary line between the city and the metropolitan area, but they are no longer considered of importance.Demographics
Asglen's population consists mainly of shirevi (38.5%), but it is not unusual to run across dwarves (12.6%) or elves (10.2%). Other common species are terrambs (6.4%) and avians (4.5%), but most species are present. It is notable that there is a high population of halfbloods (9.8%), comparable to that of places such as Ona and Ziphia.
The age of the population skews on the younger side: 26% of all population in the metropolitan area is under the age of maturity, and 63% is halfway to the life expectancy. Only a quarter of the population is in the erderly stage.
The lifestyle in Asglen is of general high quality. Most people live modestly, and many others are comfortable enough to afford higher education. Very few people live below the poverty line

Government
Traditionally, Asglen is guided by the Xire of Esluxia, who is aided in their duty by the Ashen Council. The Council is composed of fifteen citizens, who get voted in directly by the population and change every five years. The Council and the First Citizen oversee administration, health and safety, building regulations and agibility of the city. They are not responsible for laws passed or the justice system.
Each Ashen Councilor is elected from one of the municipal districts that Asglen is administratively divided into. Aside from their Ashen Councilor, each district elects thirty other citizens, who form the Municipal Junta. The Junta is presided by the Ashen Councilor, who represents its will into the Ashen Council.
The Ashen Council meets regularly twice a month; a petition of five thousand citizens can call it into extraordinary session, and a petition of one thousand citizens may call it into emergency session. An emergency session may be also called by any singular member of the Council.
The Ashen Council is responsible for:
- defining the administrative, economic and social aims;
- monitoring the activities of dependant burocratic organs;
- managing city-wide projects, public works, funds and resources;
- regulating the activity of local Guilds, trades and associations.
Each Municipal Junta is responsible for:
- regulations and permits in the fields of contstruction and commerce;
- urban maintenance, public work projects and planning of green areas for the municipal district;
- direct management of certain funds, allocated by the Ashen Council yearly (scholarships, activity promotions and such)
- local political and social initiatives.
Districts
There are fifteen municipal districts in Asglen, alongside the Citadel that gets represented in the Ashen Council by the Xire. Each district is further divided into historical boroughs, which have no further administrative role but are largely integrated into the social life of the inhabitants.
The districts are as follows:
- Citadel
- North Gate
- West Gate
- South Gate
- East Gate
Guilds and Factions
Defences
As the city is built in the bent of a river, access from three directions is blocked by bridges that can be raised or torn down. The port area and its warehouses can be locked down separately from the rest of the city to block any invasions via river.
Additionally, the eight statues of the Sili that are distributed around the perimeter of the city proper are magical resonators. They can be activated in times of need by a small council of people to raise a magical barrier. From them, the council may also spread spells and rituals of elemental nature that may aid the city's defensive and offensive power along paths dug into the ground.
Economy
Asglen boasts a fairly thriving economy. As the administrative capitol of Esluxia and a major commercial node for the Alliance, it sees a lot of diplomats, administrators, doctors, researchers and merchants within its territory.Farming and Mining
