Nantucket
Nantucket is an island off the coast of Massachusetts. The town on the island was known as Sherburne until 1795, when it was renamed Nantucket. For the sake of the Revolution books (especially Where Cannons Roar), "Nantucket" refers to the island and "Sherburne" to the town.
Demographics
Many of the people living in Nantucket at the time of the Revolution were Quakers.
Industry & Trade
Most of the trade on Nantucket was related to the whaling industry, even as early as the late 1700s before it became a major center of American whaling in the 19th century.
History
Prior to the settlement by European colonizers, the island of Nantucket was home to the Wampanoag peoples.
