Slavery

Slavery exists in many forms within the known realms of Tuono's Corpse, ranging from harsh lives of forced work to more lavish existences with many routes to ones own freedom. The central kingdoms may be the location of the greatest number of slaves, however, they live under relatively good conditions in a form of feudal servitude known as villeiny. Further afield, in the lands of Volnia, Breuic and even the more remote lands of the Runic Empire, more traditional forms of slavery can be found where the slave is the permanent property of their master, though the numbers are of lesser magnitude.   The trading of slaves is a prominent profession of merchants from the island of Breuic, where many have grown rich from their trade of wine and spices. They often source their slaves from the Volnic Kingdom who themselves buy the slaves from the ethnically distinct tribes of the murathi archipelago, where the warring tribes will often sell the captured prisoners of war as slaves to their Volnic administrators.   While the more traditional form of slavery itself is not prohibited within the The Brynic Confederacy, its prevalence is greatly reduced due to the attitudes of those in the Kingdom of Sarbrynia where their traditions of parliament and devolved sovereignty have often clashed with the notion of slavery in such an absolute form. Being on the coast of the Ochar Sea where the slave trade is most prominent, Sarbrynia has banned the docking of slave ships and those of slave traders from their ports, making the passage of slaves into the central kingdoms difficult. Though ships may still pass straight through the kingdom along the Bryn, this is however a logistically disadvantageous route, the ships often instead use smaller boats to ferry prospective buyers out into the ocean where they can trade away from the law of the southern Brynic kingdom.
