Salt

Salt is a valuable resource for people of all walks of life within the central kingdoms and beyond, being used as a spice for food as well as a preservative, salt is a common yet expensive and lucrative commodity. The production of salt occurs primarily near the coast where the seawater can be easily collected and the water evaporated in shallow pans. The can be achieved on a larger scale by building shallow artificial lakes where the water can be evaporated in a great scale. While the Kingdom of Sarbrynia, being on the coast of the Ochar Sea, does have significant salt production, the Kingdom of Volnia and the Runic Empire by far surpass any of the central kingdoms for the production of salt. Salt can also be produced by mining natural deposits, however, this method is far less common and highly dangerous, generally only occurring in remote inland locations. A particularly infamous location where salt is mined is the Hankuola Mine, located in the Duchy of the Dales, where miners have been known to die due to dehydration only to be left in place and found days later.
