Ring Oaths

It is common across many cultures on Tuono's Corpse that oaths between liege and vassal are formalised through the giving of a ring from the liege to the vassal. A ceremony of fealty would occur between the two parties when a new vassal becomes subservient to an overlord or simply when the overlord has deemed it to have been a significant time since a vassal has formally pledged to them.   The tradition of Ring Oaths has also developed an extended ceremony around it. It usually consists of the initial pledge of featly, where the vassal would kneel before their overlord and be accepted under their protection and gifted the ring that binds the oath. The rings used are generally of precious metal and inlaid with various jewels, it is expected that the receiver of the ring should wear it whenever in formal company and retain it as if it were the property of their lord. After this ceremony, there is generally a feast and the vassal will typically spend the night under the roof of their lord.   The tradition is most prominently found in the southern lands of Doria and Sarbrynia, being used a a formal bond between the Grand Duke and his vassals in the former and a de-facto badge of office in the latter.  The Grand Duchy of Canyndor has a particularly interesting tradition in relation to the rings of oath wherein, should the vassal die the ring is returned to their lord, however, should the lord die the vassal assumes ownership of the ring and is provided a new one from the successor lord.
