Jakaamen

Jakaamen are a formation of between 20-50 heavy archers sporting a large longbow of 200lbs draw weight, with a large, flat-bladed sword as their secondary weapon. Their main purpose was to be used at short range to break up enemy formations, firing their bows at a flat angle towards the enemy, they are especially effective at countering cavalry. They fired a quick succession of volleys within a tight field of fire ensuring that enemy formation would be forced to break to avoid this area of certain death. Due to their short-range nature, they also carry on them a Levemik (a medium length sword that broadens towards the end) to use if they are engaged by the enemy. Jakaaman are often from the lower nobility as the training required to man the bows is extensive and requires years of practice, those who are capable can expect to be rewarded accordingly, though there are cases of lesser status Jakaamen among the ranks. The formation is endemic to the Grand Duchy of Canyndor where recruiting of such units are undertaken across the duchy, though those who hail from the Baneswood are particularly renown for their skill.
