Yesmos

Yesmos.
  The southern-most country in Rethium.
A land of endless dunes and waves, but not of water, rather of waves of golden and delicate sand; and miles of it on all sides and in every direction.
Located to the west of the country of Opron, south of Stale, Athad and Uthesh, and east of Aswary and Pagrad, it is considered the third of the seven countries on the continent to have been founded by the mortal races after their arrival on the newly-created planet of Tarris Six. It spans several hundreds of thousands of square miles of land, and is the third most populated country on the continent, behind Opron and Aswary which take second and first place respectively.
It has one capital, the city of Luxor.
This city is located in the southern reaches of the country, near the region of the Eamae Ocean known as the Summer Sea. The river that extends into the country is the Daeed-Lethaehr River, which translates to "Dead Water River" in Reethese. It is the longest river in Yesmos and extends some five miles into the country, before disappearing into a large underground cavern and being filtered into the crust below the surface. This river feeds the riverside gardens of the capital city, which are the people's main source of food and nutrition, and it is also the main source of transport from one side of the city to the other, as the city of Luxor spans this river on both sides. This same river is the source of the myth that a portal into hell resides somewhere below the surface through this massive cavern system which has not been fully mapped and explored.
The country is also home to a large number of landmarks and other majesties, including mysterious valleys, oases and other strange geological formations. There was - in ancient times - a total of sixteen cities in the country of Yesmos, each of them housing thousands if not millions of inhabitants each, and they are sustained via their own gardens and other means of plant and resource growth and trade between their neighboring cities. From the northern border of Yesmos and across to the southern borders along the Eamae Ocean, they are named in order as such: Aptatunis, Tarte, Shetcana, Qisu, Ebno, Shepa, Ketasut, Besta, Nenopis, Acta, Ebbethus, Tava, Akbe, Djata, Dedenu, Setka and Luxor, which is the capital city resting along the Daeed-Lethaehr River.
Six of these cities sit on the borders of the region of Yesmos known as the Great Desert. This stretch of open landscape is the most desolate landscape in Yesmos, and is extremely dry and arid and without water. To keep civilians from risking a long and potentially deadly trip across the Great Desert, roads were mapped and charted along the borders of the desert in safer areas and along higher elevations to prevent the exposure to as much heat as they would feel in wider, deeper and flatter regions. The Great Desert is also called Death Valley to the natives of this desert country, and is commonly absolutely deserted all year round so as to prevent unnecessary deaths during travel across this vast expanse. The Jackalfolk - a humanoid race of dog-like beings - are the main inhabitants of this desert country, other races are known to have made their homes in this vast desert. Races such as Humans, Fielne, Kitsune and even Karasu and Biene have made their homes in the cities of Yesmos, but the Jackalfolk will always hold the title as the true rulers of this ancient and powerful desert kingdom.
The country is separated from Uthesh, Pagrad and Opron by a large collection of mountain ranges, at least three that span the borders of these countries. The first of these is known as the Green Mile Mountains, which contrary to their name do span far more than a single mile of distance. They border Kitsune County, Opron and Yesmos, and keep the weather systems in these two parts of the continent in check all year round, although at least two to three times a year heavy deluges of rain are known to take place across the continent due to the mountains and their assistance in carrying clouds and winds over the landmass. The second range of mountains is the very southwestern reach of the Minorian Mountains, which border the country of Opron from it's westerly neighbor Uthesh, which lies at the center of the continent of Rethium as it's crowning jewel. Only the very southwestern edge of the Minorian Mountains border Yesmos, leaving other mountain ranges to wall Yesmos off from it's three very large neighbors. The third range of mountains is known as The Ye'e Mountains, which means "Yagi" in Reethese, after the titular goddess of forests and tranquility. The mountain range is swathed in forests on the Pagrad side, yet the side facing Yesmos appears rocky and barren, with little vegetation near the foothills, while the crowns of the mountains are covered both in snow and forests on both sides. This final stretch of mountains is the western border of Yesmos and Pagrad, and is the obstacle over which the inhabitants of both countries must climb if they seek to reach the other side in the quickest amount of time.
The Ye'e Mountains are the longest border range along Yesmos, with the Green Mile Mountains taking second place and the reach of the Minorian Mountains taking third place.
There is one other mysterious region within Yesmos that many have been trying to discover the reasons behind for many years. This region is a large swath of land covered in towering stacks of stone and bedrock, called Buttes, and the last count taken of these massive stone formations produced around two-thousand of these massive stacks over a very wide area of land. Scientists have come to the conclusion that at one point in history, Yesmos was underwater, and extremely powerful currents tore and carved at the stone until it had formed the massive rocks towering hundreds of meters into the open sky. The tallest of these stacks stand at a staggering two-thousand feet high, a towering hundred-eighty-four stories tall. Although this particular region has no defined name, another gathering of the same stacks does have a name, and is called the Valley Of Pharaohs. This region is swathed in stacks that have been carved into the likenesses of the many pharaoh's that have resided over and have reigned over the country and the ancient city of Luxor for thousands of years of time. The tallest stack that has been carved is the likeness of Uah, the first Pharaoh of Luxor after the country had been found and charted by those who went on to explore it. It stands over the other statues at a staggering two-thousand-one-hundred-sixty-six feet tall, two-hundred stories high, while the others stand only one-hundred stories in comparison. Over one-thousand workers perished during the construction of this statue which was launched shortly after Uah's death following his reign as the first Pharaoh of Luxor.
It is unknown for how long the reign of the ancient pharaoh's lasted over Yesmos, but the end of their age is defined as the catastrophe that saw the flooding of the great river and the destruction of the city that surrounded it and took the lives of thousands of men, women and children at the time.
A knight came into Yesmos followed by a band of men and women, and told the people of Yesmos that he was searching for his granddaughter who was said to have been taken to Yesmos by an unknown group when she had been denied entry into Paradise after her death. She was believed to have been in Luxor from the words of various sources, but he was there to see it for himself. What followed was a tearful reunion, a welcome time of hospitality for the knight and his band, and a few long days of peace and tranquility for them.
That was until a Vibri woman arrived with her Orcish forces, happening to be searching for the same woman that the knight and his band had already found. What followed quickly after was a war between the Pharaoh and his army and the Vibri woman and her own forces, which clashed heavily in and around the city for several hours into the evening of what had been another peaceful day in the city. The knight entered the battle and revealed the fact that he was in fact an angel from Paradise himself along with those who had traveled with him. The Vibri army was destroyed, but the army of the Pharaoh had suffered massive losses at the same time. A massive wave summoned by the knight in order to destroy the remaining Vibri forces was lost, and it eventually swept through the river and into the city, destroying almost everything in it's path in a matter of minutes before finally settling after only ten minutes of destructive rampaging through the great city.
In modern times, Yesmos is a country dotted with old mining towns and cities that have been built from the ashes of the former empire and are now filled with people seeking their fortunes in the wasteland as well as escaped outlaws and ne'er-do-wells looking for a chance to make a life and a name for themselves. They are bandits, miners, outlaws, nomads and any other type in between that are escaping from the business of the rest of the world and looking for some peace and quiet. The city of Luxor is naught but history and legend at this point, and the great pyramid-esque temple at the heart of the former capital city is one of the only major remains left of the great city known as Luxor.
Pthah-Nefer was the last great Pharaoh of Luxor, and it is believed that he and his wife climbed to the top of the Uah statue and threw themselves down in order to pass together into paradise, as they believed that they could do nothing to save their once-golden kingdom that had lasted for so many thousands of years.
