Hispan Islands "The Histian Empire"
The Histian Empire.
Founded in early history by Cnaeus Cicero Histian, the Histian Empire was founded by Histian when he and a group of about two-hundred citizens from the former kingdoms of Olgath had travelled from Olgath and through Rethium in search of a new land to call their own. Having been told by many that an uninhabited land lay west of Aswary in Rethium, he and his group set out to find it for themselves, and with the help of experienced boat-builders in Aswary, they collected the belongings they would need in order to travel the great distance across the ocean in search of their new home.
It took only a few weeks, but at long last, they found it.
A few weeks later, they found themselves on the eastern coast of the first island of the Hispan continent, which bordered a crescent-shaped sea between the first island, which was the smaller of the two that made up the full landmass. Upon their landing on the northern-most tip of the first island due to the land being dangerous further down the coast, Histian founded the first city of the empire which he called Eastgate. This city would become instrumental in the future of guarding the Hispan Sea from invaders from other civilizations looking to inhabit it for themselves and to take it from Histian and his followers. As they travelled further inland from Eastgate in search of plentiful lands in which to settle further, they came upon their next favored location, which was a valley situated on the edge of the sea and being fed by both a river from the heartlands and the sea itself. This next locale was known as Palesand due to the near-white color of the sands that lined this area of the coast, and would soon become one of the most plentiful lands in the Histian Empire.
Adding the civilizations of Eastgate and Palesand, there are twenty-five known cities in the Histian Empire, all of them extremely large and very plentiful in terms of resources and other means of life. These cities, listed from the eastern island to the western island, but not in particular order, are: Eastgate, Palesand, Bakend (also called Proximare which roughly means 'Neighbor of The Sea' in their dialect), Reth, Lobi, Rae, Bastion, Romaa, Viik, Plaine, Paerae, Tentyra, Guth, Paragon, Greypeak, Lonik, Essen, Ocane, Rosity, Cause, Story, Redbank, Birth and Histagon.
Of these cities, Histagon, Birth, Paragon, Eastgate and Bastion are the largest, each topping out around a whopping sixteen to seventeen million citizens at their height. Histagon is in fact the absolute largest sustainable city in the world in modern times and has reached a peak population of around nineteen to twenty million citizens who are broken up into city regions, each led by their own small governing bodies who answer in whole to the main government seat which resides in the city proper, which lies at the edge of the Hispan Sea and was the original full city during the first centuries of it's life. Bastion is a city of only twelve million people and is the capital of the eastern island of the Empire, acting as the connecting point between the two to act as the communications hub to the western island on which sits the government of the Histian Empire. It is the longest lasting empire of it's kind that has operated underneath a republican representative democracy and is one of the oldest empire kingdoms in the world, still extending into the modern times.
The Histian Empire is considered the Golden Empire of Tarris Six, and although it has modernized to a degree with forms of transportation and fashion among other aspects, their style of construction as well as food culture has not changed, extending onwards from the founding period and into modern day. One of their staples, Uushmedel Mead, was created not long into the Empire's golden age, and quickly became an empire staple, drunk even by the highest members of society and at one point, the emperor of the Histian Empire declared that it was the finest, smoothest and most delicate thing he had ever tasted in his life, akin to the honey that sustained the gods, and a rival even to their finest wines. It has since become the Empire's elected drink of choice, and it is legal to drink in every bar, tavern, restaurant and other locales, with a watered down recipe being provided for the children in the Empire.
The population density of the Empire has fluctuated nearly as much as the population itself of the entire Empire over it's time as an existing body. Of the known races that live on Tarris, almost all of them are believed to occupy some niche within the empire. Of the Human race, the niche lies within the sixty percent range, making them the highest average race in the Empire to date into modern times. Of the next highest density, the Kitsune, they take up fifty-seven percent of the population, as they were also one of the races to immigrate to the Empire when it was first founded by Histian. The Jackalfolk are next and take up approximately fifty percent of the population. Their men are some of those who have been attributed to foreign scholars and teachers of foreign subjects at some of the most developed universities, and they keep this title with great honor. The Owlfolk follow next, occupying up to forty-five percent of the Empire's populous. They are followed closely by none other than the Orc, who survive in the thirty-nine percent density. The Orc actually occupy many of the harder labor jobs in the Empire such as construction, metalwork such as smithing and forging, and even mining and other job sections, at which their work and ethic is praised by the Empire. It is rumored that Orcs were the primary constructors of the emperor's palace and that he regarded them with great praise after his palace was complete. Behind the Orcs lie the Nathair and the Goblins, reaching thirty-seven and thirty-five percent respectively. They work primarily as farm and estate owners as well as business operators and other important sects of society, and uphold these positions with great clarity and attention to detail. They are some of the most successful members of society in the Histian Empire. The Psedi fall behind them at thirty percent, and are proficient readers and keepers of knowledge and other subjects. They are the ledger-keepers of the Empire and are primarily in charge of the banks and vaults, both public and private. The Fielne, a primarily female race reside within a niche of society that takes up roughly twenty-seven percent, and their lithe yet expert figures have attributed them to working well at diners and other eateries as their wait staff, although they are the most common amongst another profession in the Empire that is not very well looked down upon by society. All the same though they get by and have done very well for themselves. The Anseryan race has come in not far behind, taking up twenty percent of the Empire's population. They are some of the most commonly found members of the Imperial Guard and other security systems, sharing that work with Humans and even some Kitsune and Nathair. They are extremely loyal to their charges and their work, and will not give up their post without a fight. When they lead marches through the city during parades or other maneuvers, it is not a sight to be missed. The Elven race takes up fifteen percent of the populous, and are the keepers of vineyards and vast acres of farmland on which grow the staples of the Empire's food value, and they have also been known to trace back the history of their own knowledge in attempts to better the Empire through the application of that knowledge. The final race to live within the Empire and yet the smallest in density are the Fauns and their kind. They are the penultimate brokers of peace in the vast Empire, and were chosen because of their wisdom and other characteristics to occupy the inner workings of the government and even the echelons of the emperor and those who have been given the graces to live inside his grand palace. It is said that a Faun will occupy the Emperor wherever he goes around the Empire, as he covets a voice of reason and will not accept word from anyone but them, as they are extremely honest and will covet this honesty and truth above everything else. It is also said that they are extremely resilient against different poisons and that the Faun travelling with the Emperor will often share in the meal to lessen the possibility of an assassination in his presence. Unfortunately, there have been many Fauns to pass away under the charge of their respective Emperors throughout time, but only so many of these were due to a food being truly poisoned in attempt to kill the Emperor.
Amongst the many staples of the Empire and as common as they are, there is only one in particular that truly takes home the prize of being the most unique staple ever distributed. It does not belong to a food or a product, but that of a small and unassuming creature.
They are called Piffles.
Piffles are small creatures covered in layers of fur in a wide variety of colors, and they are the most widely-spread domesticated house pet on the planet. They stand at an average of one foot tall but can only grow as tall as one and a half feet, or eighteen inches in height from bottom to top. Their appearance is quite strange though as they are able to move without the apparent existence of any arms, legs or even a tail to provide balance. They have large eyes with connected sclera, and their pupils can also range in color although only from black to brown, which is the only way to tell their gender apart if a large group is in the same place. Their fur colors are: Blue, Red, Pink, Black, Green, Purple, Yellow, White, Orange, Brown and even the extremely rare Rainbow or Gold colors. Both genders can be born with any color. They are primarily herbivorous creatures and are docile and peaceful by nature, and do not have a known call or means of communication with Humans or other creatures save for themselves. They are the most commonly found pet in the Empire, becoming even more popular than felines or canines. Their origins are unknown, but they are believed to have come from the last age of dinosaurs before they went extinct, although this gives very few possible origins to their species. They can give birth to offspring, called Pifflings, and despite this it is still unknown if they are mammal or reptile due to their size and body shape which would not support a large skeleton unless it was made of cartilage.
The Piffle has also been spread across the continent of Rethium and even as far as the Islands of Moth, but they have yet to extend as far as Ethlemthos or Olgath due to the fact that not many ships from the Empire or Rethium travel there very often, meaning that the Piffle has been confined mainly to Rethium and the Empire.
The Histian Empire is believed to be several thousands of years old, and their capital city is also home to the second largest construct in the world, which is The Hanging Gardens of Histagon.
The Hanging Gardens are not only one of the World Wonders, but they are believed to be the largest archeological gathering of plant species from all over the known world, dating back to periods from hundreds of years ago to even thousands. An area as large as a city is covered in lush greenery and is inhabited by animal species both known and some unfortunately on the brink of extinction. It is unknown when exactly the gardens were first constructed, but they are so legendary and important that they have been placed on the World Registry of Historical Protected Grounds and Establishments by all known world governments.
