Saradreza Belaulur
Saradreza Belaulur, Last Matriarch of House Belaulur
In the eight-hundredth year of Menzoberranzan’s shadowed chronicle, Narceress Faertaeir, dread Matriarch of House Faertaeir, at last subdued her rival Saradreza Belaulur, the final Matriarch of the accursed House Belaulur. The bloodline of Belaulur was utterly consumed; every kin was slaughtered without mercy, their mortal remains hurled to the ravening Quaggoths, and even their enslaved servants, once passed into adolescence, were fed likewise to the beasts.
Narceress did not triumph through blade alone. By cunning and venomous diplomacy, she drew the rival Houses of Menzoberranzan into momentary accord, as one by one they recoiled from the Belaulur’s heresy: a profane covenant with Zinzerena, Mistress of Shadows. The Belaulurs wielded guile and sorcery of no small magnitude, yet the hand of one goddess could not shield them from the wrath of all Houses gathered beneath the malice of Lolth.
For Saradreza herself, a punishment beyond death was decreed. At the command of Narceress, slaves and summoned fiends wrought a prison unlike any other—an ossuary-fortress of iron and stone, woven through with sorcery and the cries of the dying. There the last Matriarch of Belaulur was scourged, broken upon the rack, and at last slain in a ritual of black necromancy so vile that her soul was denied any passing. In her unlife she was shackled within a cage of rune-branded iron, seared unending by torrents of conjured flame. Wards unyielding preserved both the bars and the torments, ensuring her agony could never fail.
Upon the walls of that abyssal place, the bones of House Belaulur were chained, their very souls shackled into ceaseless lamentation. Their voices, drawn from depths beyond the grave, became an Eternal Dirge—an endless wailing that shivers through the corridors like the tolling of damnation’s bells.
When the rites had ended, the prison was sealed beneath veils of curse and shadow, its location veiled from memory, its existence whispered only in dread tales among those daring to speak the name Belaulur.
