Locations
Lore Darkroot Bitter Tower: A powerful tower situated a perpetually growing tree of evil. While it can be trimmed, mangled, and destroyed, there will always be room to regrow and strengthen. It serves an important purpose of absorbing the bad emotions of the world, should the world fall into a depression. This is how it has trees and powers in all kinds of areas. It also emits a sort of bitter fog, emotions made manifest in times of great evil and despair. The evil lords living here can find numerous uses for this gas. There are also massive graves, either predating said tree or being formed to feed the unending hunger of evil. It is deeply intertwined with the land it is in, with roots that sprout up in most areas that the current Dark lord can travel too and from. However, the good have often found ways to disable them, meaning the Dark Lord will have to find his way to them and reopen them again.
The original Darkroot was planted soon after the Winter wars ended. Winters had brought lots of demons and curses forth, turning the land barren and wasted. The Darkroot was devised by a necromantic order that proved its worth by fighting the invading demons. Using the mounds of bodies and vast negative energy stores, they planted a magical tree and performed a glorious ritual. The tree grew fast and hard, its roots digging deep into the land. It converted the bodies and negative energy into a form of green energy, revitalizing the entire land.
Defunct Lesser Tree Tower: A sproutling of the larger Darkroot. It is connected to the larger tree and allows one to travel magically through its roots to a tower. They often have fortifications built around them to protect the tree, though that does not stop everything. Enemies can uproot it to a degree, necessitating a Rootlord having to go to the site to clear out any hostiles and subsequently reconnect it to the tree. It is partially inspired by other tree towers, which are trees in a symbiotic relationship with nature fey who shape it to their needs as it shapes to theirs, though occasionally it had attachments that weren't grown by said tree.
Tree Tower: A tower grown around a tree. It is often grown by the Elves, though some Necrotree Keepers use similar methods.
Cemetery City: An unlikely settlement has formed here. Escaping from the calamity in their city, they have fled to the Cemetery, using several of the crypts as temporary shelters.
Rat City: A city built for rats. It was a massive surprise when plague rats appeared and infected the townsfolk.
Brewery: A tall building, heavily advanced and its main purpose is to produce beer. It has become a veritable trade fortress, standing tall and proud. It has expanded into a strong fortress for the people using it, who live close to the brewery and have advanced piping all over. Maybe it also doubles as a temple for the Dwarven Beer Gods.
The Forest of Dreams: The inhabitants of this forest intertwined themselves into a collective dream. Their bodies were turned into trees and rocks, keeping them in a perpetual dream state. This dream state also gave birth to creatures made of nightmare emotions.
Exploratory Mine: A Dwarven mine outside of dwarven lands. It is designed as an introduction to the Dwarves. This mine has gold in all likelihood, though probably have to sacrifice to get to it.
Great Desert: A desert infested with sandworms and sandstorms. The sand blows, there are some rocky outcrops, but mostly bare sand.
The Mountains: The Mountains where the dwarves live. Its covered in industry, with only a few parts untouched.
