7 Deadly Sins format

Brainstorming 7 Deadly Sins

This idea may not survive, but I wanted to give it its own article. 7 deadly sins, represented by 7 characters. 7 are corrupt heroes fought by the Rootlord, the other 7 are NPCs that mostly help the Darkroot or at least stay out of his way.

Main char: Is actually a piece of the puzzle, using a cursed object. May be one of the sins, or exist outside of them. The cursed object he unknowingly wields drove him to kill the others, then take it all for itself. It will let the host it used go freely, like the last user, or face them in a climatic final battle.

Undecided Sins:

Hyena Hero might be Envy

Envy hero may have control of Rats, seeking to infiltrate every land to steal what they want and crave from others.

Desert area might be Lust or Gluttony, a large tree trying to suck up all the water for beer production.

The Lizardfolk might all be cultists or serving a form of tree, seeking live sacrifices.

Sloth/Envy Spider: A spider with worshippers that bring it everything. Could also be the Envy Spider, with webs and spies that listen in and only become more and more envious of what their targets have.

One person serves it, simply because they promised tastier morsels than they to satisfy the spider. Sloth could be letting them be eaten instead of intervening, giving the Rootlord a way to surprise the spider.

It wears its ring on one of its legs.

Rings: Each of the former heroes have a ring. Now, they wear the ring on other parts besides their hands. Some have it as a bracer, the spider has it around one of their legs, one has it as a nose ring or horn ring, who knows what else.

Cursed Coins: Possibly the Envy Hero or Greed Hero. These Coins come from a collection of treasure offered to sate the greed of a conqueror. When it failed, it was cursed. All who took a piece of gold from it would not feel anything yet have an aching hunger and thirst none could sate. The only way to end the curse was to return the coins and a blood sacrifice.

Corrupted Heroes Overview: Once heroes, their vices have been twisted beyond recognition into pure despots. Each one represents one of the 7 Deadly Sins.

Allies Overview: NPCs of some importance, mainly to react to the main character's sins and virtues. They may not all function the same way, but they show off the various sins in a neutral light and will react accordingly. Not all will encourage or chastise the player for being evil or good, but they will react at bare minimum.

These allies all represent the Sins as well.

Sin Check: Where the Rootlord can choose to indulge in the sin described, a test of his purity.

A Dwarf/Giant who became an everlasting one, listening to a dark god's call and going to a secret place to consume a creature, bones and all. With this, he gained tremendous power, but it required the sacrifice of many many.

Eventually though, he fell behind, and his form began to mutate noticeably, turning into a hulking monstrosity

Greed

The Gold Golem Man: Guy wants to become a literal walking gold statue. His dark rituals require lots of gold, and has dropped everything in pursuit of it. His people hate him, and he has enslaved hundreds to work themselves to death to mine the gold. Likely will bleed gold and then become a gold statue. He may or may not be picked apart by his own people, their greed for gold only surpassed by the wrath they wish to enact upon him.

He's probably going to be the dwarven hero.

Greed Merchant: An artifacts dealer. He will pay handsomely for captured artifacts, much more than the previous owners can. Evil Rootlords will meet with him often, Good ones rarely. He is indifferent, only dedicated to the gold.

He serves as the main shop of the Rootlord, having many connections and willing to deal anything the Rootlord wants, so long as he gets coin.

The Greed Sin Check will be early or mid game, where the gold chosen makes a sizable difference, at the cost of whoever or whatever is left to burn or rot.

Lust

Former Hero: .

Lust Human Hero: Guy fell in love with an underwater monstrosity. He began to change both his land and his people. Now, its a wet soggy land full of half man, half fish monstrosities.

Probably going to be the human hero. Possibly a knight or bard, or a bardic knight.

Former Hero: .

Sloth

Former Hero: .

The Former: The former bearer of the cursed weapon. He sits in a tavern, drinking away his troubles. He speaks cryptically, not helped by the cursed weapon actively impeding his words.

The current Rootlord finds this former Rootlord in a random bar, and decides to have his Meenlocks grab his chair whole and walk him to the Dark Root Tower, where he is placed near a bar and left to drink. The Rootlord can interact with him by bringing him different drinks, bought from the Greed Merchant or taken from the lands.

Name Undecided, he's the ally who represents Sloth.

Wrath

Former Hero: .

Ally: .

Wrath Check: After dominating or destroying one of the former Heroes, The Rootlord comes to the hero's companion bird's eggs and possibly the companion itself. It is in no shape to fight and only seeks to protect its eggs. The Rootlord can slaughter the bird and its eggs in Wrath.

If the Rootlord decides to smash the eggs, he gains a bunch of lifeforce, but the Bird Companion will escape, returning later as a boss and seeking vengeance on the Rootlord. However, if the eggs are spared, the Bird Companion will come to the rescue of the hero later, probably taking on another one of the villains. Possibly even inciting a bunch of birds to come to the Rootlord's aide as well.
