The Burdenstone
A small, blue gem that is slightly cold to the touch, the Burdenstone was a gift from the arch mage Brenaugh to his wife Elain.
Meant to capture the memory of their joy and love together, it became a tortuous burden to Brenaugh after his wife’s tragic murder. Literally carrying the memory of his beloved’s death around with him, Brenaugh went mad with anguish. The gem was lost after his death, though early rumours suggested it was stolen by a heartbroken secret admirer of the Lady Elain.
The Burden of Memory
The Burdenstone absorbs and stores the memories of anybody in contact with it (only during the time they are in contact). Contact means within an inch or two of skin contact, such as being in a pocket, a thin bag laying against the hip, on a necklace over-top of clothing, etc. Memories become faded and fuzzier the further the stone is from the bearer, until at 5-6 inches they fade out completely.Accessing the Memories
When placed in water, the stone freezes the surface of the liquid and begins to reveal images and scenes in the resulting ice. While everyone present can see the images in the ice, no sound emanates from the stone or the ice.
