Delugian Battle Guard (Deh-lew-gi-an - bat-tle - gu-ard)
Warriors of the Storm
Able to fly in even the harshest of winds, these creatures present a terrifying sight as they bear down as an army from the storm-ridden heavens onto those who have angered their wrathful god. With gleaming muskets and sharp obsidian blades in hand, the Delugian Battle Guard are an intense force of nature to be reckoned with as they meet their foes with a laughing anger.
Praise be to Caldros!
Basic Information
Anatomy
Bearing two large leathery wings upon their back, sweeping horns crackling with lightning, and a thick armored tail, the Delugians strike an intimidating figure to any who bear witness to them. Armored from its horned head to its digitigrade feet and filled with its creator's fury, this living gargoyle-like creature bears its tasks with a fanged smile and a ready willingness to meet its master's immense will.
Genetics and Reproduction
Crafted from the souls of those who struggled mightily against ill-fated storms, these militant creatures carry with them a sense of furious honor. Their bodies crackle with a soldier's fury as they patiently wait for Caldros' commands for their legions to be issued forth.
Ecology and Habitats
Flitting amongst the storm clouds that make up their divine home, the Delugian Battle Guard can be seen in nearly every corner of Caldros' eternally cycling realm. Acting as the shield and hammer to his will, the gargoyle-like creatures ensure that his realm is protected from intrusion while also keeping a watchful eye on the mortals that dot his island trophies. Stationed upon captured fortresses and ready for his command, they watch through the whipping rain for the moment that they can descend upon those who raise their lord's ire.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Preferring the taste of fresh cheeses and meats, the Delugian Battle Guard can often be seen cooking these favored meals during periods of rest amongst Xepherypha's calmer moments.
Behaviour
Like a hammer bearing down upon hot iron, these soldiers of the storm strike with an intense fury only matched by the spittle of their muskets' fire as they rain terror down upon all who believe themselves above Caldros' reach. Gnashing and laughing as they fight, the Delugians are just as comfortable at close range as they are at a distance and will draw gleaming obsidian swords and bayonets when close combat is required.
Loyal to a fault, they obey their lord's commands utterly and without thought as they discipline not only those who cradle themselves in kingdoms and fortresses but also those who try to stand tall upon the floating islands within Xepherypha. Lacking kindness, they are brutal in their actions and yet disciplined in the face of battle, willing to take on almost any foe and with the wind and the rain at their back, they clash with those who would seek to refuse Caldros' authority.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Divided into twenty-four hosts, their social structure is militant and includes the bearing of higher commanders who guide the flying troops towards their enemy's weak points. During periods where battle may not be taking place, however, it is not uncommon for various members of the Battle Guard to be engaging in feats of competition or mock battles to decide who may lead the next charge upon the earth below.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Rare as they are upon the mortal planes, members of the Delugian Battle Guard have been known to accompany individuals of interest to Caldros as divine bodyguards, ready to sacrifice themselves if need be to protect their given charge.
Average Intelligence
Direct like their creator, the Delugians are not subtle in their approaches to problems. However, this does not mean that they are mere brutes. Able to utilize advanced military tactics, they have been able to conquer foes and armies many times their size with a mixture of cold discipline and inborn fury.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Able to see between the raindrops and dark clouds that make up their native home, the Delugian Battle Guard are capable of navigating their way through any storm and natural darkness to find their prey. Able to sense the guilt of the arrogant, they are merciless as they follow the measures of their duty, leaving only the repentant alive to face their lord's judgement
Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
Working with other divine subjects underneath Caldros' control, the Delugian Battle Guard have been known to ride Borlinsa into battle and use Wulverro as supportive units as they engage with their master's enemies. However, it is the Cynderwyrm that they give the most respect to, and often they will follow their orders with great care as they seek to conquer the lands of the arrogant and foolish alike.
