Borlinsa (Bore-lin-sa)

The Frostborn Guide

"Follow the White Stag"   This saying, in its many forms, has been curiously passed down through many civilizations and peoples. While the true meaning behind this statement is unknown many divine scholars attribute it to the actions of the graceful Borlinsa. Considered the calmest of Caldros' divine servants, the Borlinsa appears as a snow-white deer that possesses a natural tendency to guide those in danger to safety. Often seen during periods of great natural disasters, there have been several accounts of mortals who had believed themselves to be lost until they saw the white cervine standing at a distance. Following its flashes of white they then account how they were able to find shelter or respite from the chaos around them until it was safe.   This peaceful behavior, however, would seem to be in stark contrast to its appearance as a cavalry steed for Caldros' stormborn troops. Raining like hail upon those who have angered their divine master, the Borlinsa bear their riders down towards the earth with a ferocity rarely seen in the stoic animal's usual demeanor. While divine scholars debate if these two examples are the same creature a simple truth continues to flourish throughout the mortal races during times of significant strife.   "Follow the White Stag"

Basic Information

Anatomy

Delicate and yet somehow sturdy at the same time, the Borlinsa appear to be shaped much like any other cervine creature with four hooves, a short tail, antlers, and a moderately thick pelt. However, even these simple aspects carry divinity within them as, appearing much like the snow around them, the Borlinsa bear a stark white hide, possess frozen icicles among the branches of their antlers, and leave a glittering trail wherever they walk.

Genetics and Reproduction

As a lesser divine, Borlinsa reproduction is different from those of mortal creatures. Drafted from the souls of mortals who stoically accepted their demise at the hands of natural disasters, these calm and collected divine creatures express a natural serenity about them, much like the feeling one gets in the middle of a silent snowfall. However, much like other subjects of Caldros, they can express a distinct and quiet blizzard-like fury should their charges ever be threatened.

Ecology and Habitats

Content to quietly graze upon Xepherypha's many trophy islands, Borlinsa are often seen simply weathering the storms around them with a peaceful grace until they are otherwise spurred to action. During the divine hurricane's calmer tides, it is not uncommon to see their stark white herds crossing the skies between islands with glittering trails, leaving snowfall in their wake. When upon mortal planes, the Borlinsa can appear as princely figures in the distance, able to be seen through smoke and dust with a clarity that inevitably attracts those they seek to guide through natural disasters.

Dietary Needs and Habits

While they do not require sustenance, Borlinsa have been known to be attracted to fresh plant shoots with the first sprouts after a long winter being a particular favorite for the otherwise stoic species.

Behaviour

Generally content to be left to their own devices, they take the matter of protecting their charges seriously. Whether it be those they choose to guide or the riders they bear during Caldros' wrathful hurricane-like invasions, these divine creatures will do everything within their power to protect those they deem worthy of their attention. A fact that many mortals attribute their continued lives to.
