Goldar
(a.k.a. Goldbeard)
Description
Standing tall for a dwarf at 5.2 Goldar cut's an imposing figure. A set of broad shoulders and a heavy set frame only add to his menace, which he augments with fine clothes or practical and functional armour. The most striking features are his blond hair and jet black irises which help him stand out from most dwarves combination of brown on brown. He is rarely still, nearly always moving with purpose, and his overall manner defies thoughts of any idea that he might put his feet up and enjoy some mundane entertainment. He often stinks of rich cigars or fine perfumes, speaking more of the quality of those he is currently manipulating than of his own fine tastes.Character notes
Goldar is a dwarf charged with a destiny, his future has been seen by the prophets of the Seer Council. They predicted of him "In life his actions will maintain the balance between the twin beasts of flame but in his final death his passing will quench their fires and only ash will remain." He takes his destiny seriously and has spent many years playing the great Libraries (The Phoenix Library and The Dragon Ink Library) against each other, he sees them as his targets. What happens when he might die is unclear, and Goldar has not mentioned it. What is clear is that he is a skilled operative, a former Agent of the Dragon Ink Library, trained to hunt down dangerous knowledge, until recently had access to the resources of the Seers, has been an operative for the Phoenix Library and has led expeditions for the Guild Institute of Science and the Arcane (GISA). He has proven a dangerous fighter, well connected and with a pschopathic fixation on his task.History with players
Goldar has been a thorn in the side of the group since the beginning of the story.- They first learn about Goldar after finding Finn out in the scablands, Goldar was leading the expedition of the Dragon Ink Library and left him to as a distraction to help him get past malfunctioning Undead of the Tomb Machine
- He then attacked the party when they stood in the ruins of the Dragon Mage city, attempting to gain a scroll that the group had obtained.
- The group were able to gain the Firehawk and fly to Caspi. There they sought to piece together what happened by speaking to a representative of both the libraries. Goldar poisoned their drinks, and when that didn't work attempted to finish the job himself. During this attack, he was captured.
- Held by the Dragon Ink library, the group interrogated him getting nothing from him, but did learn when he was remanded into the custody of the Council of Seers, that he had an important destiny.
- They next heard of his involvement when investigating the Ruins of Mad Jacks Palace. It seemed that just before leading the expedition into the scablands he had led an expedition to these ruins, while the scientists he was with were here to research the ruins odd effect on sleep and collect historical data about Mad Jack, Goldar was in search of the 'Ember Heart'. Carmilla, Isolde's fiance, was part of this expedition and seems to have disappeared along with it and Goldar. Though her notes indicate that she was at least valuable to the rogue dwarf.
- Goldar may also be involved with a raid conducted in the scablands that is of interest to Azekk.
- Finally, he has recently stopped checking in with the Seer Council, who take this absence seriously, they have offered a reward to anyone who tracks him down and brings him back alive or in a state that can be easily resurrected.
