Swordbreak Detention Center

Capacity:

Originally designed for 50 inmates, but currently holding over 100 due to overcrowding.

Conditions:

The overcrowded conditions have led to deteriorating hygiene standards and increased tension among inmates. Resources are stretched thin, making it difficult to provide adequate care and supervision. The detention center has gained a reputation for being a grim and inhospitable place, leading to calls for reform from both human rights advocates and concerned citizens.

Issues:

The current situation poses numerous challenges, including the risk of disease outbreaks, increased violence among inmates, and the potential for wrongful detentions. The lack of proper facilities and resources has strained the criminal justice system, sparking debates about the need for systemic reforms and improvements in law enforcement practices.

Purpose / Function

The Swordbreak Detention Center was initially constructed with the intended purpose of temporarily holding individuals accused of crimes within the city limits. Its primary function was to serve as a hub for processing and housing those awaiting trial or serving short-term sentences. However, due to the surge in criminal activity and the inability to transfer prisoners to Coldstone Prison  fast enough to handle the influx, the center's role has shifted over time. It now finds itself overcrowded, becoming more of a long-term holding facility rather than the originally intended temporary detainment center.

Alterations

Over the years, the Swordbreak Detention Center has undergone several modifications to adapt to the changing circumstances and increased demand for its services. The initial design, meant for short-term stays, has been altered to accommodate the growing number of long-term occupants. Additional cell blocks were constructed, extending the facility vertically and horizontally to maximize the available space. The original administrative offices and processing areas have been expanded to handle the bureaucratic demands of a larger inmate population. To address security concerns arising from the overcrowding, the building's perimeter has been reinforced, and additional surveillance measures, such as magical wards and enhanced monitoring systems, have been implemented.   Despite these modifications, the center still struggles to keep up with the rising number of detainees. The alterations primarily aim to maintain a semblance of order and security within the facility, but the challenges persist due to the overwhelming demand on its resources.

Architecture

The building follows a utilitarian design, with thick stone walls and barred windows. The cells are small, offering minimal space for occupants. Overcrowding has forced authorities to convert common areas into makeshift holding spaces, contributing to the overall dismal atmosphere.

Defenses

The Swordbreak Detention Center employs a combination of physical and magical defensive structures to secure its premises. The outer perimeter is fortified with sturdy stone walls topped with iron spikes to deter any attempts at scaling. Guard towers strategically placed along the walls provide vantage points for the watchful eyes of the sentinels. Magical wards enhance the security measures, creating invisible barriers that can detect unauthorized magical activity and alert the guards. Anti-teleportation spells have been woven into the fabric of the building to prevent any escape attempts through magical means. Additionally, enchanted locks and reinforced doors secure critical areas within the facility, ensuring that only authorized personnel have access.   The center also utilizes trained beasts, such as magical constructs or summoned creatures, to patrol the outer areas and deter potential intruders. These defensive measures collectively form a comprehensive system designed to maintain order and prevent both escapes and unauthorized entries into the Swordbreak Detention Center.

History

The Swordbreak Detention Center was established as a temporary holding facility for individuals awaiting trial or transfer to Coldstone Prison. Over time, the increase in crime and the city's growing population led to a surge in arrests, overwhelming the detention center's capacity. Originally intended for short-term stays, many inmates now find themselves languishing in the cramped cells for extended periods.
