The Lost Confederacy

"A hall for every hold, a hearth for every home, and an axe for every head!"
In many ways, dwarfkind has long been humanity’s closest companion race. Even now, they stand firm beside Man, holding the line against the darkness that seeks to unravel civilization. This bond was even stronger during the days of the Golden Age, when the skies burned gold and enlightenment stirred in the hearts of Acarus.   Back then, the dwarves commanded the vast mountain ranges that bordered the provinces of the Old Empire of Man, acting as its shield—particularly against the Elves, should old grudges ever reignite. The great alliance of dwarven strongholds that once stretched across Kalladonia was known collectively as The Lost Confederacy, its remnants still visible in ruined halls and sealed gates scattered across the land.   Their reach was not limited to the surface. The dwarves also held domain over the ancient cave network beneath the world—known today by darker names—once used as continental highways. Through these underworld roads they traded, traveled, and even warred with one another, extending their influence into the deep.   Even at the height of the Confederacy, the dwarves kept to themselves. Stoic and insular, they did not seek out allies lightly. Yet when the world trembles, it is always the dwarves who answer first. Through every age, they have remained Mankind’s most loyal axe, ready when the hour turns grim.
In Mankind we Trust.
