The glorious smell of pancakes blows over deck

The real world ambrosia.

The pirate crew was still getting used to their new ship. Although the Red Sunrise was based on the plans of the Sunset Dawn, their previous vessel. The new titanium barquentinewas different enough they occasionally found themselves in the wrong place for the task at hand. Or searched for something where it was not located. One of the biggest differences didn't affect the workings of the ship in the slightest, but it did affect the crew morals majorly, was the location of the galley ventilation outlet. Everything Alejandro was cooking, baking, or frying up in his domain, was instantly smelled on deck!

Pancakes

Today, a Saturday somewhere on the Pacific Ocean, the smell was telling the crew that pancakes where on the menu. They hadn't taken much provisions from the Russian ship yard where the Red Sunrise was built. Well, they had enough, but not very diverse. Potatoes they had plenty, as well as flour, the fresh milk was gone already, but there was powdered milk, cheese and butter. And god knows where they came from but Aleksey had found some chickens that were laying eggs.

As you see enough ingredients to make pancakes. The smell started appearing just after four bells into the forenoon watch. And an hour later, most of the crew's stomachs were grumbling, with dinner time still being an hour away. Then, just before noon, a second distinct smell joined the orchestra of airborne flavours. Bacon.

When Rose came down from deck into the messroom, most of the crew were already there, eating away. On the tables there were several towering stacks of nice thin pancakes, natural, with bacon, with cheese, with bacon and cheese, with raisins, with apple. Next to the already decreasing mountains pancakes stood an array of toppings such as jams, sugar, chocolate, bananas, and syrup.

"Hey Bobby can I have the powdered sugar" Jan called out from across the messroom. Bobby smiled, and then tossed the canister across. Without closing the lid. A minor smoke trail of white sugar followed the can across the room. But when Jan caught it, the sudden stop created an explosion like smoke cloud out of which Jan appeared white as ghost while coughing his lungs out.
