Flames from the sky

Early in the career of the Sunset Dawn the pirate's sailed trough the 0-0 point where the equator crossed the prime meridian. And now Rose couldn't help it but to pass another special point, now with the Red Sunrise. Early in the night Jan de Jongh called the entire crew on deck as the sky appeared to be full of fire balls. All around them, flaming pieces appeared in the sky and looked like coming down. None of them hit the ship, or even fell close.

Named

Point Nemo is the only named Pole of inaccessibility, it is named after Jules Verne's Captain Nemo from the 1870AD novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas. As that was the favourite story from the man who calculated the location of Point Nemo.

Space craft cemetery

As this area is about two-hunded-and-fifty nautical miles from any shipping lane and air-traffic doesn't go over it either, the area around this is also used to crash space crafts that are not useful anymore. Without being it a danger to humans.

Something about Point Nemo always fills me with existential dread. I can't help imagining myself stranded there in a rowboat, miles and miles from land with no chance of anyone stumbling across me. D:

Imagine being a random rich person wanting to go there, and ending up getting a spacecraft crashing on top of you.
