The Vegani Spear

History

The Vegani Spear is a length of limestone shaped by Lapi, The God of Earth, and used in battle against Fire God Vega. During battle, Lapi used many pieces of stalagmites and stalactites as spears, piercing the fire god's hide with them as weapons. Vega was forced to flee from numerous battles with her due to her tenacity, and it is thought that the eruption of the now Yellowstone Gulf National Park was caused to due him suffering a grievous injury during one of their many conflicts. The one that was house in Vega's temple was removed from his hide on his arrival to the Shanin Islands. Used as a ritual object symbolizing Vega's strength during festivals for centuries, the spear was retired as a display object within the temple itself and instead replaced with sacrificial boar hunts and competitions among Vega's own followers.   It is feared that the spear has been lost following the Pacific Eruption Disaster, as the Temple of Vega was consumed by the eruptions of Mount Shanai. No recovery effort of the temple nor its goods has been made, and it is likely that the spear will never be recovered even if it did survive the fires and magma flows. The Cult of Fire has stated that no recovery effort of the temple or its artifacts is planned until Shanai has been able to recover, and only if recovery is wished by Maka, God of Fire, Vega's daughter and successor.

Significance

The Vegani Spear is one of few artifacts of the major gods known to have survived into the modern era from the War of the Majors, and was well understood in its origins. It was a piece of limestone broken from stalagmites or stalactites by Lapi herself, and shaped using Earth Mana into a deadly weapon, and known to be used directly in combat against Vega himself due to analysis finding traces of the god's dried blood on it. Further chemical analysis showed the stone likely originated much further east than originally assumed, likely in Appalachia, giving credence to theories that Lapi may have originated in the region.
