Mr. Mysteries' So-True Histories Episode 17 - Avskildhet, a Neohuman homeland

Hello Eager Learners! I am Mr. Mysteries, formerly of the Learned League, and this is my KARENcast series on the history of our Reality, Reality 69. On our last episode we were looking at the assertion of the Stability Committee. This episode will focus on the created home of the Stability Committee and proposed homeland of the Neohumans.
Avskildhet, Swedish for privacy, was created over the week of March 14th through the 19th of 1965. At the center of the island is a massive plateau called the Plith. This geographic feature is the most dominant feature on the entire island, and provides a constant reminder of the Reciprocity Rules. Other than dominating any view including the center of the island, however, the Plith and the Stability Committee have little impact on the island itself. It is assumed that the Stability Committee created the island out of nothing, although the Stability Committee has never confirmed this.
The island came into existance covered in lush rainforest like plantlife, including several species of plantlife that were unknown to Earth. In addition to varied and interesting flora, there is a robust collection of interesting fauna, including several species of dinosaur like creatures and other animals that at least superficially resemble many now extinct natural species of Earth. Subsequent discoveries from other realities have found similar flora and fauna to the new species of each found on the island which has lead to some debate on if the island was actually pulled or amalgamated from other dimensions or realities.
The island is protected from casual visitation by a swirling sargasso current that is obviously artifical in construct. This current flows in a counter-clockwise direction at a constant speed of 15 knots. This constant current does cause the island itself to slowly rotate in place, completing a full rotation every two days. This constant rotation leads to a constant low breeze on any part of the island not blocked by trees or buildings. The weather around the island is very chaotic and it is not unusual to go from humid and sweltering to torrential rain to pea-sized hail to sunny and warm all in a day.
Many Neohumans, particularly some of the most notorious for public actions during the Chaos, saw this new island as a chance to truly escape the influence of human governments (and later corporate influence). Unfortunately for many of these arrivals, Avskildhet is a hard place to live, even with Neohuman abilities. A leader and vocal proponent of the Neohuman Sepratist Movement, the costumed hero Sovereign Gold made the first real progress in trying to organize the new residents of the island. Using her natural leadership abilities as well as her powerful material control abilities, she and her followers raised the city of Sactum near the base of the Plith and founded the first recognized Neohuman-focused government in the world.
Under Sovereign Gold's leadership Sanctum grow in both influence and population over the next few years. There was significant internacine conflict between various factions within the Sanctum government that actually escalated to full-on physical fights. As a council to Sovereign Gold and the other leaders of Sanctum, the Learned League attempted to the mitigate these conflicts as much as possible. I am proud to have been a founding member of the Learned League and still stand by the work that we did there.
A short four years after Avskildhet came to be and Soveriegn Gold founded Sanctum, she was sadly assassinated on June 10th, 1969. There are many reasonable suspects as to who was behind this terrible event, but both myself and the other members of the League that I maintain contact with consider the most likely perpetrator as the villian Gammortis, acting as an agent of the Canadian government. After Sovereign Gold was killed, the Learned League attempted to step into her place, to provide a guiding hand. Unfortunately with her death, many Neohumans that had come to Sanctum under her banner decided to leave rather than fight.
In the outside world, it was becoming more and more obvious that Neohumans were not a temporary phenomena. Since the initial NAP, roughly 60% of all births from humans and Neohumans alike manifested Neohuman ability within their first few months.
Our next episode will focus on the collapse of Sanctum and Neohuman Recognition Acts.
