Mr. Mysteries' So-True Histories Episode 14 - The Chaos Part II Arrival of the Myreans
Hello Eager Learners! I am Mr. Mysteries, formerly of the Learned League, and this is my KARENcast series on the history of our Reality, Reality 69. On our last episode we began a look at the period of time after the Great Deviation Point, known as the Chaos. We will continue with that topic today.
In addition to the rise of Neohuman crime and the general confusion, fear, and damage Neohuman expression, two other significant events occured very shortly after the NAP. The first of these is only secondary due to the massive impact of the NAP.
On July 2nd in 1947 radio contact was made by an alien craft at the outer edge of the solar system. This contact was specifically targeted on reserved frequencies used by the various spy agencies of the world. Through this channel an initial contact was coordinated at Boseman, Montana in the United States. The US government launched a false flag operation in Rosewell to distract the public eye.
This is a useful illustration of the mindset of these early days. Even with regular headlines regarding this or that Neohuman surprise filling the papers more and more every day, the government was still concerned with exacerbating the situation. The degree to which this backfired is considered by many to be one of the greatest public relations disasters of all time. With the rise of Neohumans, the Rosewell incident played into a growing fear by many that the Neohumans were actually some kind of alien invasion.
After that initial meeting with the Myrneans, however, it became apparent that these new allies may be able to help bring what was seen at the time as an increasing, but still manageable, problem. In exchange for an open introduction to the world to discuss permanent habitation, the Myrneans offered the basic technology behind augmented suits and power lifters as well as weather stabilization services, given their apparently natural ability to control the weather.
The Myrneans were officially introduced to the UN and thusly the world on Decemember 12th, 1947. The Myrneans explained that their homeworld had been destroyed; looted and rendered unlivable by a menace they called the Ventu'shan. They offered Earth access to some of their technology and access to resources from the deepest parts of the ocean in exchange for being able to settle the deeps of the Mariana Trench. This deal was eventually negotiated on these terms, and the Myrneans announced that their first survival ships would arrive within the next two years.
Next time we will focus on the arguably third most important development in the first few years of the Chaos - the rise of costumed heroes.
