Every part of the RDP is considered top secret to the general public as well as other government agencies, but even in the RDP there are different levels of access. All agents are granted Alpha level access upon joining the RDP. Alpha level agents are able to access data of the same level. About
The Royal Department of Protection is a top secret government agency that protects the people of the United Kingdoms of America (and the world) from the supernatural. Something is defined as being supernatural if it is beyond scientific understanding and the forces of nature, but here at the RDP we pride ourselves in understanding the supernatural. We keep this information from the public in order to protect them from the horrors that lurk in the shadows.
The RDP is one the oldest government agencies in the history of the U.K.A, and was founded by General George Washington in 1776 after the U.K.A became an independent nation. Throughout the history of the RDP much information on the supernatural has been gathered into a massive database. This database holds all of the collective knowledge of the RDP from it's over 200 years of operation.
The RDP has four operational facilities across the U.K.A. The facility at Roanoke, NC, is our oldest facility still in use and serves as the main headquarters of the RDP. Our largest facility is located in Devil's Camp, IL, and functions as the training center for new recruits. Our newest facility is located in Arkham, MA, and was founded in the 1950s by Professor Abraham Van Helsing. The facility located in Tall Pine, CA, is currently our only one on the west coast.
Our Mission
Our mission at the RDP is to understand and potentially eliminate any supernatural threats facing the world. This must be done in secrecy to prevent the public from panicking. All agents have a duty to protect innocent lives from the hidden dangers in our world.
Challenges
The greatest challenges the RDP are currently facing are budget cuts, an increase in supernatural activity, and the rise of technology. These three things have impacted the agency in many ways and have forced us to adapt to an ever changing world.
Due to the fact that we operate in secrecy many politicians don't want to fund an agency that appears to do very little. On top of that citizens don't like their taxes to go towards something they don't understand. This forced the government to cut funding to the RDP causing us to shut down many of our facilities. In order to continue our duty to protect the people we had to acquire private funding. This is a change for the RDP and one we are still adpating to.
Despite the issue it causes, the RDP is still dedicated to keeping the supernatural world a secret. This is more difficult in our current times when most civilians have access to cameras and the internet. This means RDP agents must be even more cautious out in the field to prevent any unwanted attention. In the event there is a leak we have a team that specializes in "debunking" conspiracy theories. As long as there is doubt towards any claims of the supernatural, people sleep better at night.
The biggest issue the RDP faces is the rise of supernatural activity. Over the past decade supernatural reports have been rising exponentially and it is something that we have to deal with. Unfortunately, with our funding cut we were left with few options. This made us reevaluate how we acquire agents. Starting in 2020 we began making alliances with some supernatural communities and allowed individuals of a supernatural origin to join our ranks. Some of our new agents include Dhampirs, Cambions, Changelings, and Merfolk. This is a brand new chapter in the RDP.

Some of my favorite stories revolve around "what if?" scenarios, and that is what I wanted to focus on in my alternate version of earth. What if the United States was a monarchy? What if fairy tales were real? What if monsters lurked in the shadows? This is what I based my world on. All of my world building will be framed by being part of the RDP Database. The RDP is a government agency of the United Kingdoms of America (my alternate United States) that deals with these supernatural threats. I wanted the lore to feel more "in world" as if the reader is a member of the RDP doing research for a mission. This is something I have wanted to do for a long time and I hope you enjoy my take on some classic legends and cryptids. Thanks for reading!
