Devil

“Devils need no reason to stir up chaos. The chaos itself is their reward.”

Overview

Devils are Ravnica's pranksters, if pranking was far more nefarious and deadly. Cackling through the streets these beings delight in causing chaos through destruction and manipulation. Devils thrive on lies, deceit, and the subtle art of temptation, but never shy away from causing physical destruction and harm.
Devils have an unmistakably sinister appearance that reflects their nefarious nature. While forms vary wildely, many possess classic infernal traits: horns curling like crowns, barbed tails, and glowing predatory eyes. Their rough, leathery skin vary in shades of red and orange and are often laced with sharp spikes.
While smaller in size, these mischievious creatures cause disorder and destruction out of proportion with their stature. They excel at vocal mimicry, making them deeply irritating impressionists that can fool most people. They are also naturally adept at illusionary magic, and often disguise their appearance in order to slip into places where they are most unwanted.
Devils are almost always associated with the Cult of Rakdos as performers, while some instead enjoy the freedom of destruction that the Gruul Clans offer.

Society and Culture

Devils occupy a precarious position in Ravnica. They are universally mistrusted, yet their talents for deception make then invaluable to those who seek to undermine and subvert their enemies.
One will scarcely see a Devil in their true form outside of any Rakdos event or Gruul raid. Wandering around the streets as they naturally look will likely draw deep suspicion from everyone around them, or at worst become a victim of violence. Instead, Devils tend to mask their appearance as existing or made up individuals to get around the city, while employing their uncanny mimicry to change their voices in order to avoid any unwanted attention.
Most Devils will remain in the employment of the Cult of Rakdos, as servants behind the scenes, as opening acts to the main event, or the subject of a gruesome and deadly performance. As such, many Devils are often seen as expendable props to enhance an event, or as lowly workers to clean up after it is done. Cunning leaders, however, will find that Devils offer much more than cheap labor.
Many guilds as, a result of a Devil's cunning and subterfuge, have put into place measures to sniff out if a Devil has infiltrated their ranks. Their silver tongues make them extremely dangerous to the order and structures of the other Guilds, and Rakdos himself has often used Devils to sow chaos and distrust, or to gather sensitive information.
Devils tend to worship Mogis, God of Slaughter as their patron god. His philosphy of killing and destruction goes hand in hand with the natural tendencies of a Devil. Though Devils aren't as strong as Mogis would like, he still appreciates their large appetite for murder. Another typical god that Devils worship is Phenax, God of Deception. It's said that a Devil's gift of lying comes directly from Phenax, and he has always enjoyed watching the cunning trickery of a Devil at play.

Special Rules

Age

Devils do not age. They never grow old and are effectively immortal, but can still be killed.

Speed

Movement: 5 meters (20 feet).

Uncanny Liar

Devils are infamous for being liars and two-faced. They often tell half truths, and will say anything to get the upper hand or if they just want to be entertained. As long as the person you are speaking to is unaware that you are a Devil, all Deceit rolls are made one grade easier.

Naturally Distrusted

Myths and public perception have given Devils a bad name, and for good reason. They are naturally distrusted among everyone, even their own kind. Anyone who is aware that you are Devil will make any Deceit rolls against them 2 grades harder.

Catfisher

Devils have adapted to widespread distrust and have learned to hide their appearance. Every Devil knows how to use innate illusion magic to change their appearance. This requires no roll, uses 1 Magic Point, and costs 1 Action Point. This spell only affects your physical appearance. You can only change into creatures of Medium size down to Small. Magic that dispels can disrupt or cancel out this illusion.

Adept Illusionist

Devils are naturally in tune with illusion magic. Any Devil that pursues illusion magic will find casting spells of that category to be 1 grade easier.

Impressionist

After listening to an individual speak for at least 10 minutes, a Devil can impersonate that individual to perfect, or near perfect, levels. You can remember and recall up to your INT/2 of impersonations.

Heat Resistant

Being born of the infernal gives you immunity to the negative effects of heat. Any fire damage from up to an intensity of 3 is negated. Any damage taken from fire of higher sources is halved.

Hatred of Angels and Archons

Devils, like Demons, have a natural hatred of Angels and Archons. Born of white mana, those creatures are opposites to Devils in every way, and as such carry an ingrained trait of hatred towards them. Devils start the game with the Passion: Hatred of Angels and Archons. It starts at a base of (POWx2 + 40).

Guild Affiliations

Rakdos Performers

The Cult of Rakdos is an intrinsic Guild to be a part of for a Devil. The chaotic and bloodthirsty Cult is the perfect place for a Devil to not only find money, but to enjoy expressing their ideologies and destructive tendencies. Unfortunately Devils may find themselves at the bottom of the totem pole within this guild, forced to deal with the most menial tasks and are subject to be unwilling targets of deadly performances. That isn't to say that Devils can't be respected members of the guild, nor barred from having their own fun. Troupes of Devils are often the cause for the most chaotic and fun parts of Rakdos events, especially during parades and public outings. Devils and the Cult are inseparable, and it would be rare to find a performance without one.

Gruul Clans

While more uncommon, Devils have been seen to be a part of some of the Clans. An appetite for blood and destruction can only be so satiated from Rakdos, that the Clans are an appealing alternative for those who prefer unbridled death and carnage. The Gruul can offer the freedom from rules that some Devils long for, that even Rakdos may have to follow.

Other Guilds

Any other guild would outright refuse to employ a Devil. The only way for a Devil to a part of a different guild is if the Devil had slipped through using their illusionist methods. A Devil who has been discovered would likely be killed on sight. It would be common for many guilds to employ the use of anti-illusion or anti-shapeshifting magic for more important sections of their guilds. It would be very unwise for a Devil to stick around for long, or to try to secure a high ranking spot within the guild.

Unguilded Devils

While rare, Devils who deny the Gruul or Rakdos can be found within Ravnica. Usually these individuals are acting as free agents who only want what is good for themselves, undoubtedly itching to cause some kind of trouble for everyone else.
