The magic of the Guildpact is a unique force unto itself. Magical detection identifies Guildpact Magic as arcane, however it has a signature that is not like any of the magic of the traditional schools of magic; not just another, unique signature, but something else entirely.
Guildpact Magic is a type of metamagic that can affect other magical abilities of all disciplines as well as the flow of magic from the Weave into Ravnica itself.
How the Guildpact Affects Magic
Magic flows into Ravnice from the Weave, just as it does in any other realm, but in Ravnica, magic must first travel through the magical membrane of the Guildpact. This has a profound effect on the nature of magical energy, causing it to become less stable. This means that magical effects are not as readily able to sustain themselves without the active participation of a caster. When outside of the Guildpact's influence, magic has a longer lasting effect.
The Guildpact also affects how magic interacts with Mizzianite. While in Ravnica, Mizzium can flow through Mizzianite to produce magical effects, but the Mizzium dissapates quickly. If a source of Mizzium energy is not constantly flowing through mizzianite, the instability of the magical energy causes it to dissapate nearly instantaneously. Outside of Ravnica, mizzianite functions both as a medium for channeling Mizzium and as a Mizzium battery. Because the Weave's magic is much more stable without the Guildpact's influence, Mizzium energy can be stored in Mizzianite indefinitely.
