Garrok Badar
Early Life
Garrok Badar was born in 9,970 ZC and grew up in a traveling Rakdos performers troupe, learning fire-breathing, acrobatics, and the raw performance style that defined Rakdos entertainment. As a teenager, while walking through markets where his troupe had set up, he came in contact with the Felicity Triskelion. Garrok detected a magical signature he had never encountered before, unknowingly discovering the existence of Guildpact Magic. He often thought about this unknown arcane force, occasionally seeking out rare magical relics that might carry a similar signature.Labor Activism and the Guild War
As Garrok matured, he became aware of the exploitation faced by Rakdos performers in the Tenth District. The Azorius Senate targeted chaotic performers with excessive taxation, oppressive speech limitations, and selective enforcement of "decency laws." Performance permits were prohibitively expensive, and civic guards regularly confiscated equipment and earnings under thin pretexts. Garrok organized his fellow performers into an underground labor collective. What started as mutual aid evolved into sophisticated resistance. He coordinated performances that violated Azorius restrictions in ways that made the laws look absurd, staged protests that became street parties too large to disperse, and orchestrated "tax rebellions" where entire troupes vanished into the Undercity when collectors arrived. He trained performers in hit-and-run spectacle and established networks of safe houses throughout Ravnica's lower districts. When the Guild War erupted in 10,000 ZC, Garrok's organizational skills caught Lord Rakdos's attention. At age 30, he was elevated to general, commanding Rakdos forces in the wider conflict. For forty years, Garrok served at the demon lord's side, proving himself as both strategist and administrator. But as the war dragged on, Lord Rakdos fell into increasingly deep bouts of nihilistic depression. The demon lord would retreat to his lair for months at a time, leaving the guild leaderless while Garrok kept the Cult functioning—mediating disputes, managing supply lines, making tactical decisions, and holding together an organization that threatened to tear itself apart without direction. In 10,040 ZC, forty years into the war, Garrok and Lord Rakdos had an argument. Leading Garrok to step down from his position.Return to Performing and Family Life
Garrok returned to the Tenth District and to performing with a small Rakdos troupe. He met his wife, a fellow performer, and together they had three sons. For a time, he seemed content with this simpler existence, though the mystery of Guildpact Magic still occasionally nagged at him.Reconciliation and Return to Power
In 10,065 ZC, Garrok reached back out to Lord Rakdos. He swallowed his pride, claimed fault, and apologized to get back into the demon lord's good graces. Over time they rebuilt trust, and Garrok began working for the Rakdos again. By the time the Guild War ended in 10,075 ZC, Garrok was Lord Rakdos's right hand man once more and was made master of the guard for Rix Madi, the Rakdos guildhall.
