Zaherian

Zaherian is the general term for a subset of races known for having the ability, by birth, to take on traits of an animal species. While sometimes confused with Changeling (who can turn into different creatures and forms at will via 'magic') and Cursed Races (such as werewolves who have no choice but to change), a Zaherian's ability to change is by will and what they are is by trait of their blood. Generally a Zaherian will have a 'beast' form, in which they completely take on the appearance of the creature of blood they relate to; and a 'hybrid' form, which is a mix of both their human form and their beast form. Some Zaherian also are able to pull off partial transformations; though this is through intense training or simple talent.   Most often Zaherian take on 'animal' traits such as wolves or birds or the like. In such circumstance they will adopt all functions of the animal, such as advanced hearing or smell or eyesight, the ability to regrow limbs, or to perhaps fly with wings. Strengths and weaknesses are included.   Zaherian are thought to have been born through magical means- by creation of those attempting to manipulate man and beast with spells to mimic the creation of Cursed Races.
