Selenians

Selenians are a nocturnal 'supernatural' race of cursed status, named for the Moon Goddess Selene. They rank among the likes of the Mock Vampires and Lyrian. As with both they are considered weak to sunlight; though unlike both they are capable of moving within the light, albeit with some difficulty. They are also noted for being paler than the other cursed races.  

Strengths

Selenians garner their power from the moonlight and are strongest under it. Contrary to other cursed races, Selenians are not vulnerable to daylight; though their strength is vastly diminished. While Mock Vampires are considered to be the strongest of the three main cursed races, Selenian durability is considered next level. Their strength, healing factor, and sensory capabilities are also considered above normal.   Selenians gain their power from moonlight itself, being given strength in the same way that Lightonian and Dharkanian are with their energies- only for a Selenian this is passive. By harnessing the power granted to them by the lunar body, Selenians are able to manifest their own shadows into physical form to attack with. These shadows can be used to form weapons, shields, and cloaks among other forms. The effectiveness of this physical shadow manipulations seems mostly limited by the creativity of the individual Selenian.  

Weaknesses

As mentioned, Selenians are not substantially vulnerable to sunlight like other cursed races. Where as Vampiric will burn and Lyrians will be sapped of all power, a Selenian's physical prowess will drop substantially. In addition, direct sunlight exposure will erase their shadows; meaning that to use their shadows during the day they must be in pitch darkness.   In addition to this, their shadows are also limited during the day with a substantially lessened range. On top of that, only a significantly powerful Selenian is capable of manifesting their shadow without the moonlight.  

Basic Information

Genetics And Reproduction

Selenians spread their 'curse' by giving a portion of their own shadow to another under the moonlight. The exact nature of how this works is not understood but it is believed to be similar to how Mock Vampires bite another; although said Vampires must also give their blood to their intended turnee.   Selenians are incapable of reproducing with non-Selenians. While some rare cases of half-breeds have been documented, most seldom live into adulthood. Those of spiritual understanding believe this is due to Selenians giving up their own mortal spirits via their pact with the moon.  

Growth Rate & Stages

Selenians age incredibly slow, with their growth being at least ten times slower than that of a human's.  

Dietary Needs And Habits

A Selenian must eat flesh in order to function; though the source of said flesh does not matter. As with Lyrians and Mock Vampires though; traditionally a Selenian will have to feed less when the flesh is consumed by one who holds a soul.  

Behavior

Selenians traditionally focus on a 'style' or form when they manipulate their shadows. It takes time to master a new shape, due to having to build up the given style. While it is possible to learn multiple forms, most typically do not.
