Sophonts

Mind and Soul

To have a Soul is to be Sophontic. The ability to think is shared between man and beast, but the ability to control Faith is what separates them. The mysterious force, if there is one, that decides upon what allows one thing to have a Soul and another not to is not understood by the mortals of the Cosmos. All that needs to be understood is that the Sophonts are of fundamental importance.

Manfolk

Manfolk are Sophonts known for their aptitude with Faith magic. While their origins vary, they are only native to realms with a high density of Divine. Because of their natural inclination towards Faith magic and the Divinity, they are prone to becoming theocratic conquerors. Some realms have even barred their arrival.

Beastfolk

Beastfolk are Sophonts created through the direct or indirect influence of one or more Godbeasts. Most adapt to some form of bipedal humanoid with distinct animalistic features. Because Godbeasts can be grown without worship of a Sophont, it is not uncommon for Beastfolk to be the earliest Sophonts to wake up in their realm.

Faefolk

Faefolk are Sophonts that are attuned to Prime rather than Glow or Faith. Faefolk are directly tied to one of the Primarily Elements of their origin Realm with the most common being Life, Earth, or Storm. Because of their connection to Prime, Faefolk are nearly always the first Sophonce to rise after the Beastfolk.

Formedfolk

Formedfolk are Sophonts crafted from raw materials and given a Soul. The variety of ways a Formedfolk can be created is endless, but they all require some form of Faith magic in their creation. Formedfolk rely upon their Soul to sustain themselves and are unable to give Faith to others through worship.

Blessedfolk

Blessedfolk are Sophonts that were fundamentally changed through Divine means. Because they are created, not born, they are limited in number and are often tasked by their creators with finding recruits. If a Blessedfolk's creator dies, they become warped monstrosities of their past selves.

Cursedfolk

Cursedfolk are Sophonts that were fundamentally changed through magical or Divine means. Many are resentful of their creation or affliction, but some embrace the change as a misunderstood gift. The most common form of Cursedfolk is fallen Blessedfolk whose creator was slain.

Deadfolk

Deadfolk are Sophonts that once passed away but were returned through magical or Divine means. Their Souls are caught in a paradoxical cycle of life and death, making them unreliable sources of Faith to the Divine. Many Deadfolk are ostracized by society for reasons as simple as their often horrific forms.
