Requires attunement by a Paladin, Fighter, Cleric, or any character who upholds a code of honor, sworn oath, or knightly tradition.

Oathcarver is a sword of radiant silver forged in the fires of rebellion and quenched in Gwenivire’s own vow. Its hilt bears the shape of an open gauntlet and the sigil of the unbroken chain. It is always found embedded in a block of flawless white stone—and can only be drawn by one who has acted in service of others at cost to themselves.


Initial Form: Oathcarver, Blade of the Round (Level 10–13)

Stat Bonuses:

  • +2 to attack and damage rolls.
  • Weapon attacks deal an additional 1d6 radiant damage to enemies who have broken oaths, betrayed allies, or committed dishonorable acts (DM’s discretion).
  • While wielding Oathcarver, you are immune to being frightened.

Features:

  • Knight’s Challenge (1/short rest):
    As a bonus action, designate a hostile creature within 60 feet. Until the start of your next turn, that creature has disadvantage on attacks made against targets other than you. If they strike you and you survive, your next melee attack against them is made with advantage and deals bonus radiant damage equal to your proficiency bonus.
  • Radiant Guard (1/short rest:
    While adjacent to an ally, you may use your reaction to impose disadvantage on an attack roll made against them once per round. If the attack still hits, the attacker takes radiant damage equal to your Charisma modifier.

Awakened Form: Oathcarver, the Knight’s Ascendant Blade (Level 17–20)

(Once awakened, the blade glows with an inner light that pulses to the heartbeat of its wielder. Ancient runes of the Knightly Code appear across the flat of the blade, changing subtly with every act of valor or dishonor nearby.)

Stat Bonuses:

  • +3 to attack and damage rolls.
  • The sword deals an additional 2d6 radiant damage to any enemies that have committed dishonorable acts (DM discretion).
  • You gain a flying speed equal to your movement speed while under the effects of Divine Favor, Heroism, or Crusader’s Mantle.

Upgraded Features:

  • Chivalric Rebuke (1/long rest):
    As a reaction when a creature within 60 feet commits an act of treachery (attacks a surrendered foe, harms an innocent, betrays an ally), you may brand them with divine light. They are marked for 1 minute: their attacks deal half damage to your allies, and you have advantage on all attacks against them.
  • Knight of the Eternal Vigil (1/long rest):
    As a reaction, If an ally within 30 feet would be reduced to 0 HP, you may teleport adjacent to them, and parry the blow. You and that ally gain temporary hit points equal to your level + your Charisma modifier.
  • Knights of the Round Table (1/short rest):
    While attuned, you may bond this sword to up to three other honorable warriors (they must have fought beside you or shared in an oath). Once per short rest, if one of them is within 120 feet and would fall or fail a save, you can add your saving throw proficiency to their roll. each member can make use of this ability.

Awakening Trigger:

Oathcarver awakens when its bearer defends someone despite great personal risk, or upholds honor in the face of overwhelming corruption, betrayal, or despair. The sword draws power not from righteousness, but from sacrifice in service to others and devotion to a cause greater than self.
