Rescuing Lord Sebastian's Son
Setting the Stage:
The party encounters a distressing scene in the streets of Eldermere: a woman, visibly distressed, is being pursued by a group of Benet's Brigade soldiers. The woman is later revealed to be a servant of Lord Sebastian Harper.
Backstory of the Conflict:
- The servant had previously rejected the advances of a Brigade officer, who is now using his power and influence to exact revenge.
- Unable to accept the rejection, the officer falsely accuses her of being a Rebel sympathizer and attempts to arrest her under this pretext, abusing his authority to settle a personal score.
- They can choose to confront the Brigade directly, create a diversion, or find a way to secretly whisk the woman away from her pursuers.
- Depending on the party's approach, this could lead to a direct confrontation with the Brigade or a more stealthy, tactical evasion.
- The goal is to ensure the servant's safety while avoiding escalation that could lead to broader complications.
- Once safe, the servant introduces herself and explains her connection to Lord Harper.
- She reveals the truth about the Brigade officer's vendetta and her false accusation.
- She will ask the party to help her get back to her place of employment, Harpers Point.
- Upon arival, Lord Sebastion Harper would like to meet with the party, and personally thank them for protecting his Servent.
- He will ask the party questions, inquiring about them, thier alligences, and how long they have been in town.
- depending on thier answers, he has a quiet job in mind, that a group of unknown would be perfectly suited for.
- This is the result of an incident on the campus, where a masked assalient broke his son's arm. When he attempted to pull his son out of the academy, he was denied, due to a recent decree of education initiative where all children of nobility are required to be sent for education, to ensure the leaders of tomorrow are of high intelecte and prepared for the job.
- Though no outward threats have been made, Lord Harper has received the message, his son is a hostage, and his well being is contingent on Harper changing his tune on his support of the recent changes in government.
- He will give them a coin with the family crest on it, to prove to his son that they are here to rescue him. However he stresses that the coin can not fall into the hands of the brigaders, or else he will be caught.
- Island Problem- the Academy is located on its own isalnd, making it dificult to come and go discreetly.
- Main Entrance: The front gate is the most heavily guarded entry point, making it a risky choice. However, it's also where most students and visitors enter, providing good cover for infiltration.
- Rear Entrance: A less guarded rear entrance could be a viable entry point. The party may need to find a way to unlock or bypass any security measures in place.
- Underground Tunnels: Eldermere University might have a network of underground tunnels used for maintenance or emergencies. Discovering and accessing these tunnels could offer a discreet way in and out.
- Student Dormitories: Sneaking into a dormitory and using a window or balcony to access the university grounds may provide an inconspicuous entry point.
- Disguise as Students: The party could pose as students or visitors to gain access through the main gate. Disguises, fake identification, or magical illusions may be necessary for this approach.
- Edward studies after class in the Academy Library
- He has a dorm room on the second floor of East Hall, overlooking the water.
- He likes to eat his lunch and breakfast near the dockside, but there are patroling guards in this area.
- Witness Lord Harper’s relief and gratitude, solidifying a bond of trust.
- harper will offer the party thier choice of 3 magic items from his personal collection. Either the Gloves of Missile Snaring, Iron Bands of Billaro, or some Dust of Disapperence (enough for 6 uses). All descriptions can be found in the magic item list in world anvil.
- Lord Harper, impressed by the party's skill and discretion, reveals his sympathies for the Rebel cause.
- He offers to introduce the party to the Rebel leadership, seeing their potential as valuable allies.
- The party is brought to a secret meeting with one of the Rebel leader, named Elmund, at the dockside in North Shore. The rebels are also in a position where he needs a couple of unknown people, capable of another inlitration mission.
- Lord harper becomes a resource and ally for future use by the party.
