Murkwood Encounters
Good Encounters- 7-8
- Find an enchanted spring which gives beneficial properties when drinking the water
- Find a chest covered in vines, containing ancient elvin treasure.
- Find a clear game trail, travel is not considered difficult terrain for that day.
- Find a mimic colony disguising itself as a safe place to rest.
- Encounter a wood elf hunting party
- Meet the Ancient Topaz Dragon Murdonac or one of his followers, who has taken up residence here to watch the decay of the Elvin civilization as it's magic dissolves itself and leaks into the forest that has grown up around it.
- Stumble across elvin ruins with a few artifacts scattered about. Also have a door leading to undeground chambers, with both a tresure and a dangerous creture that has taken up residence.
- Find quicksand or swamp area. Go around adding time, or have Skill challenges to navigate to avoid, or escape when sucked in.
- Blights- CR ¼, ⅛, ½. Protectors of cursed forests, or underlings for an evil druid.
- Owl Bear- CR 3, aggressive and unfearful predator, hunts at night, can possibly be trained with some difficulty. MM pg 249.
- Dryad- CR 1, personification of the tree they are connected to, guardians of their forest. MM pg 121.
- Treant- CR 9, sleeping trees awakened and given life, guardians and protectors of the wilds. MM pg 289.
- Ankheg- CR 2, burrowers in the earth, large monstrosity, live in forests and grasslands.
- Basilisk- CR 3, can also live in tropics, stone gaze, stomach fluids can be used in potions to return petrified people to life.
- Bulette- CR 5, burrows in the earth, nicknamed land shark. Hunts for prey across many different environments. MM pg 34.
- Shambling Mound- Cr 5, feeds on any organic material it engulfs increasing its size, lays motionless in wait or oozes across the ground. Can come back if not destroyed properly. MM pg 270.
- Troll- CR 5, regeneration can not be killed except with fire. MM pg 291.
- Gnoll pack- roaming nomadic packs, prey on settlements, savage and barbaric raiders that feast on dead. MM pg 163, VG pg 153.
- Bodak- CR 6, Undead remains of someone who revered Orcus, seeking out both former allies and enemies to destroy them and anything they remember from life, . VG pg 127.
- Liondrake- CR 7, vicious predator that stalks prey in well patrolled territory. FTD pg 207.
- Slaadi- CR ⅛ to 10, give birth by infecting humanoids Alien style, can sometimes shape change into their original hosts, have gem stones in their brains that if captured allows you to control them, semi intelligent monsters that can cast spells. MM pg 274.
- Green Dragons- CR 8, 15, 22, love to talk and lie and trick, enjoys stalking more capable prey and leaves survivors to sow terror and learn what they know, employs many servants, most prized treasure is the living creatures and people it has bent to its will.
