Axiari

Physical Description & Geographic Location

  • The Axiari appear as tall, androgynous beings of radiant symmetry, standing between 6.5 and 8 feet tall. Their bodies are composed of a harmonic blend of flesh, crystal, and living energy, shaped to reflect perfect form. Skin tones range from metallic silver to deep bronze, often faintly glowing with inner light.
  • Most bear geometric brands or runes etched into their skin—records of their oaths and accomplishments.
  • Instead of wings, many manifest construct-lattices, energy-fins, or spectral banners that hover behind them, responsive to mood and purpose.
  • Their home is Aegiron, specifically the bastion-fortresses of the Sanctum Pinnacle and surrounding steppe citadels that make up the militarized zones of the plane.

Gods and Heroes

  • The Triumvirate of Order serves as their spiritual and civic leadership, revered as paragons rather than divine figures.
  • Virellon, Blade of Sacrifice is most widely admired among the Axiari for his total devotion to protecting the weak, even at personal cost.
  • Many Axiari revere the ideal of Order more than any specific being—heroism is measured in sacrifice for the whole, not divine favor.
  • Some pay symbolic respect to The Mage of Celestia (Merlin) or The King of Kings (Arthur) for their roles in preserving cosmic balance, but Axiari do not worship in the traditional sense.

Defining Cultural Aspects

  • Oathcraft: Axiari bind themselves to causes or missions through magically-enforced oaths. Breaking one is unthinkable and nearly impossible.
  • Purpose-Defined Lives: Every Axiari is assigned a role—Vanguard (warrior), Shepherd (healer/support), Strategos (commander), Arbiter (judge)—and dedicates their existence to it.
  • Memory Codices: Rather than family lineage, Axiari pass down honor through memory crystals that preserve experiences and knowledge across generations of purpose.
  • Symphony of Unity: Communication, leadership, and even battle formations are often guided through harmonic resonance, with spoken and musical language fused into one.

Relationship with Other Local Ethnicities

  • With Mortals: Axiari view mortals with respectful detachment. They protect mortal worlds and believe in their potential—but also consider them fragile, fallible, and in need of guidance or control.
  • With Other Celestials: They regard the inhabitants of Mount Celestia as respected equals, but sometimes too sentimental or lax in their judgment of evil. Axiari believe in active intervention rather than passive virtue.
  • With Mechanus Constructs: Axiari admire Mechanus but see its rigidity as incomplete. Law without purpose is stagnation; thus, the Axiari offer a "living law."
  • With Fiends: They loathe demons and devils, particularly because of their deceptive pacts. Axiari also make pacts—but theirs are always upheld, explicit, and made with "greatest good" in mind rather than personal gain.

Other Notes

  • The Celestial Admiralty draws heavily from Axiari legions and operates as their long-range force projection—sent into the Astral Sea and other planes to impose order where it falters.
  • Axiari occasionally ally with mortals, but only those who commit to a higher calling. They may gift powers in exchange for service, known as Oathbindings—a lawful alternative to infernal pacts.
  • There is a radical splinter group called the Perfect Design who believe the Axiari should rule all planes, enforcing peace through conquest.
