The Walk of Betrothal

History

Originally, this ritual was made to prove that the woman was strong enough to raise sons to rule and protect the kingdoms. However, it has gone through many changes over the centuries.

It started when the only child of Queen Hippolyta, III, her son Heracles, refused to marry an eligible Amazon because he loved the Reman Emperor's eldest daughter, Iulia. Hippolyta, rather than forcing her son to marry an Amazon, created the ritual for Iulia to perform, to prove that she's just as tough as any Amazon, and can rule Virginía. Over the next few generations, the kingdoms of Hadía and Ægyptía joined the tradition.

Over the next century or two, the Walk of Betrothal went through various minor changes. The first major change was the inclusion of Prepaid Guards. The nations no longer required the princess to make the journey on her own or with unpaid partners. When this occurred, the meaning changed to just being a tradition, but the technical reason (and what parents told the Princess), stayed the same. The Prepaid guards were individuals and organizations (such as the Reman Legion, The Hadian Styx, and The Ægyptian Lectors) that the royal families commission to accompany their daughters on their journey. The Amazons have never changed their policies.

The next big change was when the Prepaid Guards were illegalized, and the rules returned to needing the Princess to find her own adventuring partners to join her on the journey. The rules allow the Princess to acquire her partners by any means except the following:

  • Paying out of the Royal coffers. (Paying from personal fund is allowed)
  • Royal order.
  • Threat of Arrest.
  • Illegal activities.

The meaning thus changed from it just being a tradition to long-term negotiation skills.

Execution

On a Princess' thirteenth birthday, She leaves for her Betrothed's kingdom. The journey goes between the following locations: The Inner Forum of Reme, The Athins Hearth, The Palace at Thebes, and the Center of Amazon. The Princess travels from her home location to her destination location by any route they choose. Beforehand, she must choose and acquire her companions, this is traditionally done over the week prior.
