Love

Effect

Once the ritual is completed, the caster names the target and their general location (no more ambiguous than the location of the nearest town or landmark), and, if the target is valid, he or she becomes enamored with the caster. To determine validity, the target must know the caster as much as a good friend, and they must have a friendly attitude toward the caster (See NPC Attitudes, page 149 in the Dungeon Master’s Guide). The friendly attitude cannot come from artificial or temporary means such as charm person, but it can come from a charisma check to alter the attitude. The target must be compatible with (although not necessarily the same type i.e. elf and human as) the caster.

Note that once a creature is enamored, the relationship must proceed naturally from there. It does not make a target head-over-heels in love with the caster, unless that is the target’s normal reaction to being enamored.

The caster must know the general location of the target, and speak this aloud at the end of the ritual with the name of said target. The location cannot be any more ambiguous than the nearest town of at least small village size, or famous landmark, hereafter referred to as the landmark. The more specific the location, the higher the spell resistance and will save DC is according to the table below:

SpecificityDC Bonus
Outside of 100 miles of landmark specified-2 save and DC and -2 vs. resistance/ 50 miles past 100
Within 100 miles of landmark+0 save DC and resistance
Within 50 miles of landmark+1 save DC and +1 vs. resistance
Within 10 Miles of Landmark+2 Save DC and +2 vs. resistance
Within one mile of landmark+3 Save DC and +3 vs. Resistance
Specific address/ in landmark’s generally accepted area.+4 Save DC and +4 vs. Resistance
Exact location specified (i.e. “20 ft. due west from caster”)No save. +10 vs. Resistance

If the target is invalid, or another landmark is closer, the spell fails. Any Material components used are lost, but no XP is spent. The Spell slot is used up.

The caster must prepare the spell every day of the ritual, and she cannot take any action other than eating, sleeping, and other non-strenuous activities. The ritual takes 18 hours each day. The caster expends one set of Material components per day of the Ritual.

Note: If a person of the same name is closer to the named landmark, there is a chance that the spell chooses the wrong person. The caster must then make a Concentration check with a DC equal to the new target's Will DC + 1 per person already bypassed for the spell to bypass them and go to the actual target. If there are three or more people within the same distance range by the same name as the true target, the caster must make a Concentration Check with a DC equal to the Will Save DC +3 per potential target in the area or the spell fails.
