Karkia

Every 450 days, a season known as Karkia occurs on Zanthar and Scartia. Portals open between the two worlds, at locations that are apparently random. Monsters from Scartia tend to wander through the portals and wreak havoc on Zanthar every few days during Karkia.    The Karkillans are an organisation devoted to protecting Ambion from the effects of Karkia. This usually involves training for monster hunting leading up to Karkia, and being dispatched in small parties during Karkia to tackle the largest portals. Karkillans are also sometimes dispatched through portals to rescue kidnap victims or retrieve survivors from displaced cities or settlements.
