All Male Elves

Once upon a time there was a man. Completely regular man. No-one can remember what he did to gain the wish. Some say that he helped the gods. Some say that he stole the wish. Some say that he was just lucky. One thing is certain though, the wish. He got it. He used it and so the elves were born. Strong, beautiful, long living, but all male, as the man had asked the gods to grant him sons better than anyone else's.   At first this hardly seemed a problem as the world was full of other people. Plenty of females were still born and the elves still few, so almost no-one foresaw the problem that was ahead of them. But as the generations passed on and the elves got more common the problems begun and the unbalanced distribution of sexes started to cause bad blood amongst the elves and common folk, and so the on going war between the elves and common folk begun.   It was a very simple but brutal solution to the problem, as the slaughter balanced the unbalanced distribution of sexes. But then the another problem arise. The world's resources were limited. As the population of elves grew and common folk declined not enough females were born to support the next generation of the both population. So the new culuture amongst the elves was born, and people were limited on having only one child, as they could not afford on having the population to grow any more.   The one child policy worked and the population of elves started to slowly decline, since even amongst them not everyone made it to the age of reproduction nor were they interested in having children. Even if this new policy had helped to forge a peace between the common folk and elves the elves did not wish to let their society to decline too much, so to keep the population from declining too much, the leaders of the elves started to grant permissions for valued members of their society the permission to have another child.  

Outlaw elves

Outlaw elves are elves who has left the elven society. The reasons to leave are as many as there are outlaw elves, and not all them mean ill to anyone. Most often they just wish to be free of the many constratins of the elven society. But no matter how peaceful the outlaw is, they are seen as a threat by both societies.    To the common folk an elf is always a highly dangerous thing as they rarely is a match to an elf in physical fight, and just one elf is knownt to be able slaughter even two dozen fully armed men with an ease. So, facing an outlaw is a serious danger to the common folk and no outlaw elf can relax amongst the common folk as you never know when they slip a poison to your food, or try to sneak to slit your throat when you sleep.   The elves the outlaws are more of a nuisance. One outlaw here or there would not be a problem that would sort itself out as the common folk would eventually eliminate them, before they reproduce enough to disturb the balance. But letting people to leave the society without serious consequences, would only encourage people to leave. Thus the elves have formed a section under their police whose main purpose is to hunt down the outlaws and bring them back either dead or alive.   Recognising an outlaw: To help to recognise the elves belonging to the society the elves started to decorate their faces with temporary facial tattoos with heavenly glitter in it. These tattoos need to be redone monthly, and after half an year on the run the outlaw is very easy to recognise as their facial tattoos are completely gone. Some outlaws try to do their own facial tattoos, and those may pass to the folks who have never seen an elves before, but one seen an elf with proper facial tattoo can immediatly know the difference from the lack of true shine and glistening in the tattoo.
