Map Index: F4, G4

Location: Along the coast in central eastern Beorlan, east of Goraukoros Mountains

Geography: The land of Velkaral stands in ruin. Once filled with villages, towns, and cities, of the Kishari Empire, the land now stands devoid of any human presence.

The topography and vegetation vary significantly between the north and the south. The northern area of Velkaral contains hills vegetated with short drought-tolerant grasses while the southern area features a flat, arid landscape that becomes very dusty during the dry summer months.

One of the most well-known points along the coast of Velkaral is the ruined city of Beshara. Once a large prosperous inland city, its stone ruins stand silent along the shore, easily visible from passing ships.

Primary Population: None
Secondary Population: None
Minor Population: None

Climate: The climate of Velkaral varies between the north and south. While the subtropical temperature is nearly the same, the amount of rainfall is much higher in the northern area. Here annual precipitation supports deep rooted short grasses, while further south a desert vegetation becomes dominant. While warm in the winter, the summer heat becomes oppressive with the blazing sun beating down relentlessly across the arid landscape.

Wildlife: In the north of Velkaral, native grassland prevails while in the south, only drought tolerant vegetation grows.

Common animals include Camel, Antelope, Gazelle, Aardvark, Hyena, Warthog, and Ostrich.

Humanoids: There are no year-round humanoid inhabitants living in Velkaral.

Monsters: The lands of Velkaral contain peril for those who visit. Ferocious and monstrous creatures roam the land, fiercely guarding their territory against all intruders. Some adventurers have reported encounters with peculiar and dangerous humanoids, that are possibly descendants of the city's original inhabitants. Surviving in underground hand dug tunnels or in old subterranean ruins, these corrupted creatures live in a barbaric primitive tribal society amidst the ruins' desolation.

History: Once the Sultanate of Neblek, a province of the Kishari Empire, the Great Cataclysm laid the land to utter waste. Enormous earthquakes wracked the land and brought down most stone buildings. Then huge tsunamis swept in from the Sea of Beledor. Legends say that some of these waves exceeded 60 feet in height. As all this transpired, the land along the coast began to subside. In many places the land sank more than 40 feet, submerging large parts of the coastline. Just as all this began to taper off, dangerous chaos storms began to sweep across the land, killing or forever corrupting all that they encountered. Most of the population of Neblek perished. Most of the survivors fled north into Alvalariel prior to the arrival of the chaos storms. Following the Great Cataclysm, the entire empire totally collapsed and the land became wild.

Today: The land of Velkaral stands desolate and empty. Its once grand cities now in ruin and its people dead, scattered to distant areas, or transformed into humanoid aberrations. Today there are few indications that this land was once filled with humans who had built a great empire. The old cities are either buried under sand and rubble or now lie under the waves of the sea.
