Tawaros Range
Pronunciation: ta-WAR-ros
Map Index: A-4, A-5, B-4, B-5
Location: Northwestern Aorlan
Geography: In the remote northwest of Aorlan lies the Tawaros Range, an icy expanse defined by towering peaks, enormous glaciers, permafrost, and unrelenting cold. The mountains range from 3,100 to 21,900 feet in elevation. The desolate landscape is devoid of greenery, with only occasional arctic lichen clinging to the barren rocks under the feeble rays of the perpetually low sun.
Survival in the Tawaros Range is a formidable challenge; few animals can endure its harsh conditions, and no humanoid inhabitants brave its isolation.
Despite the Great Cataclysm's warming impact on other parts of the northern world, this realm remained frozen and unaffected. While more southerly icy wastes transformed into vibrant tundra, the Tawaros Range remained securely in winter’s icy grip, preserving its desolate beauty as a testament to the enduring forces of nature.
Primary Population: None
Secondary Population: None
Minor Population: None
Climate: The climate in this frozen realm is frigid, with temperatures remaining below freezing throughout the year. Legendary winter storms sweep through this range with roaring winds that often surpass 70 miles per hour. This brings whiteout conditions that challenge even the hardiest creatures, with the storms lasting for days.
Wildlife: The severe frigid climate in this formidable range of mountains creates conditions that are extremely unfavorable to wildlife. A few species of birds can occasionally be seen during the summer months.
Humanoids: No humaniods other than yeti live here.
Monsters: Great monsterous creatures, well adapted to the severe weather conditions include Argorth, Ice Drakes, Frost Worms, Glacier Toads, and Ice Trolls.
History: The Tawaros Range has changed little over the millenia. Glaciers grow and retreat but little overall changes. The events of the Great Cataclysm were too remote to have any affect on these mountains.
Today: This mighty range of mountain stands as a vast frozen wilderness of stark mountain peaks and large glaciers. The frozen land appears timeless compared to the sweeping changes found elsewhere in Raios.
