Skaderak Range
Pronunciation: SKAD-er-rack
Map Index: B-2, B-3, C-2, C-3, D-2
Location: Skaderak Island northwest of Aorlan
Geography: The Skaderak Range, born from the violent upheavals of the Great Cataclysm, stretch down the central heart of Skaderak Island. Formed by a colossal north-south oceanic rift, relentless earthquakes sculpted the barren, rocky landscape, thrusting colossal layers of bedrock ever skyward. Ongoing seismic activity continues the upward rapid ascent of the mountains, subjecting the region to perpetual tremors and dangerous landslides. The mountains currently range from 600 to 8,200 feet in elevation.
Primary Population: None
Secondary Population: None
Minor Population: None
Climate: The climate varies, with the northern reaches enduring long harsh winters while milder conditions predominate over the southern part of the range. Rainfall remains evenly distributed throughout the year, helping sustain a meager plant community of weedy annuals and shrubs. These plants primarily grew from seeds that were introduced to the mountains by birds.
Wildlife: Wildlife is scarce, consisting mainly of birds that have flown to the mountains from the mainland of Aorlan.
Humanoids: The region remains an unexplored mountainous wilderness with no year-round humanoid residents.
Monsters: Few dangerous creatures exist on this very large wilderness island. Frost Drakes are rumored to live on some of the mountain peaks.
History: The mountains are a product of the enormous changes initiated by the Great Cataclysm. The forces unleashed triggered tremendous uplift on the island and created the mountains that exist today.
Today: This mountain chain remains a great unexplored wilderness that continues as a nearly unpopulated land.
