Olluni Hills
Pronunciation: oh-LUNNY
Map Index: G-5
Location: Southeast Beorlan
Geography: Within the northeastern portion of the Bhoras Desert, the weathered Olluni Hills rise sharply from the surrounding land. Steep and barren, these light red colored sandstone slopes stand in contrast to the lightly vegetated arid lands around them.
Primary Population: Sklarr
Secondary Population: None
Minor Population: Skryx
Climate: The blazing hot weather creates difficult conditions for the land’s inhabitants. Baking under sunny skies the land swelters while occasional clouds rarely bring rain.
Wildlife: Little large wildlife exists in these arid forsaken lands and the lack of surface water severely limits how long wildlife can remain in this arid environment. Smaller animals such as desert rats and mice, lizards of many types, and poisonous snakes shelter underground during the scorching daylight hours, waiting for the cooler evening temperatures when great hordes of beetles and other insects emerge to feed.
Humanoids: These desert hills, appearing uninhabited, are the hidden primary homeland of the nocturnal Sklarr ratfolk. This furry nocturnal species prefers to dwell underground to escape predators and the intense heat. With well camouflaged entrances, finding the Sklarr can be difficult.
The Olluni Hills also contain a few colonies of insect-like Skryx. They are also nocturnal and live underground during hours of daylight.
Small groups of Turoch gorillamen, riding swift black horses, occasionally venture into the hills, seeking artifacts and weapons left behind by the former Kishari human inhabitants.
Monsters: Giant insects, a dangerous legacy of the Chaos Storms which wrack the land, provide the chief danger to visitors to the Olluni Hills. Common monstrous insects include giant ant lions, giant assassin bugs, scarab beetle, giant cockroach, and a variety of giant spiders.
History: Once a part of the prosperous Sultanate of Bhoras in the Kishari Empire, the Olluni Hills suffered badly during the events of the Great Cataclysm. Prodigious earthquakes ravaged the countryside, resulting in a large-scale collapse of buildings and causing the survivors little choice but to flee the great cities. Those who remained behind and managed to survive found themselves at the mercy of the horrible corrupting influence of Chaos Storms, becoming what today is the Sklarr and Cryx races.
Sitting on a high ridge of the Olluni Hills stands Usmankir, an abandoned hilltop city built from the local reddish yellow sandstone. Although in a state of ruin, many of its walls and towers still stand in defiance of the cataclysmic forces which tried to destroy them. Both the Sklarr and Cryx regard this city as holy with old legends that speak of life in the city before its demise.
Today: The Olluni Hills remain a harsh and dangerous land filled with danger, with the constant need to find drinkable water providing daily stress to all its inhabitants.
Within the hills lie the remains of the old Kishari city of Usmankir. With its stone buildings in an advanced state of ruin, digging within this old city, ancient objects of great value await those willing to take the risk.
