Miraldan Forest
Pronunciation: MIR-al-dan
Map Index: F-2
Location: Coastal land in west central Beorlan
Geography: The forest of Miraldan, located along the west coast of Beorlan just to the west of the hills of Ogrukk stands as the only forest of significant size in all Beorlan. Boasting a unique mix of tree species, the land is undulating, forming gentle low hills. The trees of this forest stand tall and have thick understories that make travelling through the forest difficult.
Primary Population: None
Secondary Population: None
Minor Population: None
Climate: With its subtropical climate, winters are brief and mild and the warm ocean current that flows northward off the coast moderates the temperature. Unlike the land farther inland, the Miraldan Forest receives adequate rainfall for trees to grow. In the cooler months light rain showers blow in from the coast. In summer the hot and humid weather often creates strong afternoon thunderstorms that rumble in from the sea.
Wildlife: The forest of Miraldan consists of slash pines and long leaf pines on high areas and sweetgum and red maple trees on lower wet areas. Common wildlife includes deer, wild boar, raccoons, panther, small reptiles, and amphibians. Birds include herons and osprey.
Humanoids: No humanoids live within the Miraldan Forest. However, the neighboring hills of Ogrukk contain tribes of Panterr and Gnolls that occasionally visit the forest to harvest wood and pine sap. These two races hate each other and often bring their warlike ways with them.
Monsters: Creatures that pose a hazard within Miraldan Forest are dire boar, wood giant, and forest drake.
History: The forest remained relatively unaffected by the Great Cataclysm. Earthquakes did little lasting damage and chaos storms mostly stopped near the border with the Ogrukk Hills.
Today: Miraldan Forest stands as a largely undisturbed woodland. Except for the border area with Ogrukk, humanoids rarely enter the forest, and it remains a wilderness area filled with beauty and dangers.
