Liawon Valley
Pronunciation: LEE-ah-won
Map Index: E-5
Location: Near the southeastern shoreline of Aorlan
Geography: The Liawon Valley consists of smooth rounded low hills with a long valley in the middle that leads ever downward towards the Gulf of Shenn’valea. Gentle hill slopes surround the valley with a deciduous hardwood forest and contain many ancient trees. At the base of these hills lies a scenic long and narrow valley meadow filled with grasses and a profusion of flowering plants.
Primary Population: Faeries allied with the Seelie Court
Secondary Population: Shenn Halfling
Minor Population: Valtauri Elf
Climate: The temperate climate varies throughout the year. Winters generally are short and cool, with only rare snowfall. Summers are hot with intermittent intense thunderstorms rolling through during the afternoon hours. Adequate precipitation falls throughout most of the year, and droughts are usually short and not too severe.
Wildlife: The forest remains dominated by oaks and hickories, while flowering shrubs, and a diverse collection of flowering annuals compose the valley floor. Many of these plants have medicinal value.
The valley contains deer, rabbits, foxes, and small rodents along with hawks and owls.
Humanoids: A significant population of faerie creatures live here, all of whom follow the ways of the Seelie Court.
A circle of devoted Shenn Halfling druids also lives here devoting their lives to maintaining this last vestige of Shenn’valea.
Finally, a few Valtauri Elf scholars dwell here, studying the energies and magic of the land.
Monsters: Monstrous creatures find themselves most unwelcome in this valley and get quickly driven away by both the faeries and druids. Those who resist these guardians and linger too long soon face the great might and anger of powerful treants.
History: This breathtaking valley was once but a minor part of the fabled land of Shenn’valea. Believed to be the most beautiful land in all Raios and the ancestral homeland of the halfling race, Shenn’valea graced the east coast of Gilsha until the Great Cataclysm struck suddenly. As the land shook with tremendous earthquakes, a large amount of the eastern coastal area of Aorlan and Beorlan tragically began subsiding, leaving much of the former coastline under the sea. The land slowly sunk for approximately 8 months, providing sufficient time for the halfling and Kishari inhabitants to flee to higher ground.
Today: Liawon Valley stands as the last remnant of the sunken land of Shenn’valea. Still retaining its magical qualities to this day, it endures as the final legacy of a now lost land of fabled beauty. The current residents, cherishing the Liawon Valley as a sacred place, continually work to ensure its survival.
