Kheldarok Peaks

Pronunciation: kel-DARE-ock

Map Index: B-4

Location: Northwest Aorlan adjacent to Giant’s Pass.

Geography: A grouping of four imposing ice-covered peaks in the Kheleckoros Mountain Range. The individual peaks have never been named by humans or elves and the name Kheldarok applies to the whole area where these mountains stand. The elevations of all four peaks exceed 18,000 feet high and are famous for the giants that occupy these towering heights. Their sheer rock walls make climbing most difficult.

Primary Population: None
Secondary Population:  None
Minor Population: Draorn

Climate: Bitter cold, high winds, and prodigious amounts of snowfall define the climate. The uppermost elevations face continual winter-like conditions year-round while on lower slopes, the warm summer sun melts much of the accumulated snow and allows for adapted plants to cling to life. The significant hazard of sudden severe storms arriving with almost no warning threatens anyone who fails to find shelter before the staggering winds and rapidly falling temperatures threaten their life.

Wildlife: No wildlife exists on the upper slopes. Farther down the peaks, the common wildlife includes snow leopard, tahr, blue sheep, black bear, wolf, musk deer, and marmots.

Humanoids: Few humanoids live in these mountains. A few humans and elves venture into the mountains in summer but most leave well before the great snows start in the autumn. Small bands of Draorn inhabit the lower slopes and occasionally venture higher.

Monsters: This mountainous area harbors giants including tribes of Frost Giants, Cloud Giants, and Storm Giants. Other monstrous creatures known to frequent the area include argorth, glacier toad, blood hawk, and taer.

History: The Kheldarok Peaks weathered the tumultuous events of the Great Cataclysm without major changes. Large earthquakes caused some avalanches and rockslides, but the damaging chaos storms did not reach this far north.

Today: The four majestic peaks that rise high into the sky offer more than a magnificent view. Many races of giants claim the great snowy valley lying between these peaks as a revered holy site. Legends found throughout the tribes of giants in Aorlan connect this valley with the fabled giant Uuktumno. Worshipped as a demigod, Uuktumno serves as the Lord of the Kheleckoros and Carakoros Mountains and is generally regarded as the greatest of all giants.
