Frosjord Caverns
Pronunciation: FROSS-yord
Map Index: B-5
Location: Northeastern portion of Aorlan where the great Frosjord Glacier meets the tundra lands of Grunevor. (Due to scale, the exact location is not shown on the World Atlas map.)
Description: The Frosjord Caverns, the largest known ice cave on Raios has its entrance at the southern terminus of the vast Frosjord Glacier where the Frosjord River makes its exit. The cave entrance is more than three times as wide as the river and pathways exist on both sides. Inside the ice is an exotic blue color as the river leads deeper into the great mass of the glacier. Explorers claim that the main passage proceeds for more than 5 miles northward before forking into several passages, each containing large active streams. The sculpting effects of water movement has produced spectacular icy formations that are wonderous to behold.
Primary Population: None
Secondary Population: None
Minor Population: None
Wildlife: Large colonies of snow bats live in the cave. After hibernating during the long winter month, they emerge to feed on the high number of insects that emerge from wet tundra bogs.
Humanoids: There are no humanoid inhabitants in the caves.
Monsters: No permanent monsters are known to live in these caverns but creatures from the surrounding area do wander inside on occasion.
History: Little is known about the history of these magnificent ice caverns. The first record of their existence was recorded by human gold prospectors who heard rumors of the caves from Draorn they encountered in the Siaga Forest.
Today: The fabled ice caverns of Frosjord beckon with their enigmatic allure. Created from ice, the caverns constantly change as the river changes course and summer floods carve new passages.
