Fenaldris
Pronunciation: FEN-ald-dris
Map Index: E-3, E-4, F-4
Location: Northcentral Beorlan in northern Palanlad
Geography: The vast plains of Fenaldris stretch across northcentral Palanlad, creating a seemingly endless land of plains and grass covered hills. The land here is similar to Arvallis, yet more rugged. In the north of Fenaldris, the great escarpment of Gre’aa rises abruptly up from the plains creating a great rocky barrier to traveling north.
Primary Population: Ranfaroth, Turoch
Secondary Population: Sareisi
Minor Population: Garuun, Herukh
Climate: A temperate climate prevails, with cool winters and plentiful rainfall during the winter. Summers are hot and dry but punctuated by occasional thunderstorms, some of which can be quite violent.
Wildlife: The grassy plains of Fenaldris are home to magnificent herds of antelopes, wildebeests, and gazelles. Sleek leopards stalk the herds, especially near watering holes and forested areas along creeks and rivers. Jackals walk stealthily hoping to catch rabbits and small rodents. During spring and fall, large flights of migratory birds pass through the grasslands on their way to their summer and winter homes. Eagles and vultures also soar the skies, looking for their next meal, as long-legged herons and egrets stalk minnows the shores of watering holes.
Humanoids: The great plains of Fenaldris serve as a battleground between the two most dominant races of humanoids in this area. The Ranfaroth centaur tribes live a nomadic lifestyle, following the migratory herds of antelopes and gazelles as they traverse the landscape. Living in yurts rather than permanent buildings, they flow with the seasons, striving to live in harmony with the ways of nature. Though suspicious of outsiders, they are rarely hostile. However, they remain extremely vigilant for incursions of their primary enemies, the Turoch beastmen.
Ill-tempered and warlike, the fierce Turoch exert their might as they frequently ride their swift black horses into Arvallis to not only hunt but to prove themselves in combat against their enemies, the Ranfaroth.
Monsters: Over the grassy plains of Arvallis, Rocs, Griffons, and giant eagles bring danger from the sky to creatures who fail to keep a proper watch on their surroundings.
History: The Great Cataclysm had limited physical impact on Arvallis’ terrain. While the earth shook, it caused little lasting damage. However, the chaos storms that swept across the land devastated its human populations. The large nomadic human tribes that once filled the plains were decimated by the chaos storms with the majority of the survivors ending up terribly corrupted as they transformed into the Ranfaroth and Turoch.
Today: Arvallis remains a resilient landscape full of life. While nature passes through its yearly cycles, the Ranfaroth and Turoch continue their long deadly struggle against each other.
