Cimdhar Cragon
Pronunciation: SIM-dar CRAY-gon
Location: Aorlan, C6
Map Index: C-6
Location: Northeast Aorlan, at the top of a long spur of the Carakoros Range near Rhorr.
Background: Twelve feet tall mysterious ancient stone menhir (standing stones), sentinels of a long-lost age, form a long perfectly straight line across the top of a high ridge line. The extremely hard stones show signs of great age and have highly weathered surfaces. Yet, runic lettering and designs inscribed into these stones long ago remain visible. The meaning of these inscriptions has so far has defied all attempts to translate them and appears to be from an unknown language and culture. The stones radiate strong magic and knowledgeable mages claim the menhir are gates to other worlds.
Geography: Situated near the great Kharz dwarf kingdom of Rhorr, the tall standing stones or menhirs stand along a ridge line in a perfect straight line. Cimdhar Cragon stands at a point that is at the base of the mighty Carakoros Mountain Range where it meets the much smaller coastal range near Rhorr. The immediate area is mountainous with a steep drop off into a narrow valley just to the north of the line of menhir.
Primary Population: None
Secondary Population: None
Minor Population: None
Climate: Temperate and humid, with long cold snowy winters, and cool summers. The area is continually covered in snow for at least 3 months a year.
Wildlife: Frost deer, ice foxes.
Humanoids: Scouting parties of Kharg dwarves from Rhorr often visit the area as it provides a good vantage point to keep watch for the potential presence of enemies. Groups of Draorn occasionally pass through the area but seem to instinctively avoid the menhir. Both races claim that the menhir make them uneasy but cannot explain why.
Monsters: Dwarves report occasional sightings of hill and frost giants. A tribe of ogres lives 18 miles away but seldom visits the area due to the vigilance of the dwarves of Rhorr.
History: The area suffered almost no negative effects during the Great Cataclysm. However, since the cataclysm the weather is far milder and the winters much shorter. The menhir that stand on this ridge pose a mystery to the nearby dwarves of Rhorr who claim that the menhir were old when their race first moved to this area more than 4 thousand years ago. When they spoke to the elves who once lived in this area, they discovered that they had absolutely no knowledge of who inscribed or erected the stones and that they thought the menhir were from a ancient lost race of humanoids.
Today: The site of Cimdhar Cragon sits silently on a windswept ridge with the great stone sentinels standing resolutely like they have for millennia. Enduring against the forces of time, these stones guard their mysterious inscriptions, providing a mysterious relic of a once proud civilization.
