Arnheim level 2 setting: The Town of Gode

Gode (pronounced GODE) is a small town of 350. Gode lies along the north shore of the mighty Arn River and is known for its well-made pottery. Gode is set up for a series of three level 2 adventures.   Government: Gode is led and protected by a minor noble, Sir Roderic Calen, a knight who "would rather be questing than this mayoring job."   Economy: Gode has 11 potteries that make a large variety of stoneware, everything from simple plates and cups to large storage vessels for wine and oil. The potteries all use wood-fired kilns which make the town smoky on days when there is a firing. The wood for firing the kilns is sold to the potters by the Gode Lumberjacks Guild. The guild is controlled by a wealthy businessman named Valminar Straits who has used his influence to keep wood prices high.

Points of Interest

The Kilnsmith’s Guildhall: This small building is the headquarters for Gode’s potters and also serves as a place for meetings and settling disputes.   The Arnside Dock: Riverside docks where trade goods and travelers arrive and depart. The dockmaster Seadin Roggar is the town gossip and knows much of what happens behind the scenes in Gode.   Lumberjack Guild Hall: This large barn-like wooden building houses lumber and firewood storage and also serves as a meeting space for the town’s lumberjacks. Marko Arvidson is the crew boss of the lumberjacks.   The Gode Clay Works: A small clay mine that supplies the clay that the potters use to make their pots. Dug into the side of a hill just to the northeast of town, the mine is owned by Arwin Clagg, a tough but honest Kharg Dwarf.   Kiln Row: The area where most of the potteries and their kilns are located.   Shrine of Oconi: This small shrine lies at the edge of town. The novice priest, Alton Crenn, is the caretaker of the shrine. He creates holy water each full moon and offers it for sale as a way to generate funds. He also performs healing for a small donation. At any given time he has d6+3 bottles of holy water for sale and emphasizes that there is nothing better to keep away evil.

Shops

The Clay Hearth Tavern: Known for its clay hearth, fine ale and good food, this tavern serves as a gathering spot for potters and lumberjacks. Tensions between these two groups are readily apparent to all who visit, but Marko and the lovable Shenn keep things civil. Its proprietor is a Shenn halfling, Jesrel Tor.   Dumont’s Tailor Shop: Small shop that houses the town’s tailor, Theo Dumont.   The Potter’s Pride: A shop showcasing the finest ceramics in Gode. It is owned and operated by Flinn Dagord, the guildmaster of the Kilnsmith Guild.   Wood & Wares: A furniture and general store run by Joss Wilk, the most knowledgeable historian in town. Joss is a master woodworker, but most of his furniture is made by his apprentices.

Homes

The Old Tower: A stone home attached to the stone watchtower, it serves as the home of Sir Roderic Calen, a knight who oversees the town with a squire and a handful of men at arms.   Straits Hall: The largest and most grand home in Gode. Owned by Valminar Straits, a wealthy but shady businessman known for his greedy ways.

Non-player Characters

Seadin Roggar: dockmaster for the town, Seadin (SAY-uh-din ROE-gar) is an Arn Human who maintains the dock and its ropes and manages the arrival and departure of barges and boats. He is friendly, prying and gossipy and he knows more about the town and its visitors than anyone else.

Marko Arvidson: crewmaster for the lumberjacks and leader of their Guild. He's an Arn Human, tall, burly, smart, loud. Marko really likes a good ale, porter or stout and talks about them often.

Arwin Clagg: Owner of the Gode Clay Mine, Arwin is a tough but honest Kharg Dwarf.

Alton Crenn: Caretaker and priest of the Shrine of Oconi in the town. He chose this life as the youngest son of a large Arn family but has truly found his devout calling and his connection with the good Goddess of the White Moon.

Jesrel Tor: Shenn Halfling and proprietor of the Clay Hearth Tavern. Jesrel is stout, hairy and always smiling. His tavern is the only public gathering spot in town, thanks to its excellent food and drink - his wife Mella brews different seasonal brews all year round. Marko, frequent customer and friend, is big and loud enough to help keep the place friendly and orderly.

Theo Dumont: Ceodari Human and the town tailor. He's short and swarthy, as his people sometimes are, just over 5' tall. It's not his main trade - tailoring is, now - but he can also make good leather and hide outdoorsmen gear and armor.

Flinn Dagord: Arn Human, Flinn is the Guildmaster for the 11 potters in Gode and runs their shop and trade from The Potter's Pride. He's friendly, likable and trusted.

Joss Wilk: Slim, pale and the only person in town wearing spectacles, Joss is a master woodworker from the nearby nation of Venn. His other passion is history and when there's no better entertainment at the Clay Hearth he'll often be asked to tell a story of ancient times or far-away places.

Sir Roderic Calen: A knight from an old but minor Arn family, Sir Roderic lives in a house attached to The Old Tower and acts as the protector, mayor and judge for the town. He usually only says "rather be questing than this mayoring job" after a few of Mella's brews.

Valminar Straits: Arn human merchant who runs the wood and lumber trade for the Lumberjack's Guild. He lives in the finest house in town, a new mansion atop a hill above the river which he calls Straits Hall. He's snooty and really does think he's above everyone else in town. Behind his back the rest of the town mutters, "Why don't he go somewhere else, then?"
