American Club

The American Club is a middle-class social/dinner club and hotel, its new location christened only months ago in a highly-celebrated affair. Respectful of its heritage and the image it conveys to potential business partners overseas, it owes it tastefully conservative design and modern accoutrements to dozens of American-based artists, craftsmen, machinists and contractors; the spectacularly appointed bridge and Mahjong parlor, however, elicits the grandeur and warmth of the ancient city of Peking. Six floors of hotel rooms (serviced by genuine Otis elevators) feature all the comforts of the West, including full room service, proper beds, electricity, porcelain appliances, running taps and hot water. The fifth floor serves as a grand dining room with spectacular views and an original oil painting of President George Washington. Guests may seek refuge or survey the skyline day or night from the vantage of the rooftop garden.   Most of the Club's hotel guests are businessmen and their customers, but the bulk of its foot traffic is made up of those interested in its game room, regular meal services and whenever the occasion strikes, its lavish banquet halls. A strict dress policy is enforced, and no locals are permitted to enter the premises (women are barred from certain common areas as well).
